3 water supply and 7 sewerage projects with WB assistance

Citizens in the urban areas of the state should get basic facilities and their standard of living should improve. For this, concrete efforts are being made by the Urban Development and Housing Department. In this direction, quality construction work is being done by Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Company, an initiative of the department, with the help of the World Bank. Work is being done on 10 projects of the World Bank for Rs 1209 crore 36 lakh. Many of these projects have been completed.

World Bank is working on a water supply scheme in Khargone, Burhanpur and Sevdha of Datia district. Also, financial assistance has been given by the World Bank for sewerage projects in Shajapur, Shahdol, Dharampuri of Dhar district, Bhairunda of Sehore district, Maheshwar of Khargone district, Bhedaghat of Jabalpur district and Chhindwara. The work of the Dharampuri, Bhedaghat, and Shajapur sewerage project has been completed by Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Company. Similarly, experimental testing of the work of the Khargone and Burhanpur water supply projects is in progress. More than 11 thousand population in the city is benefitting from the Dharampuri Sewerage Project which costs about Rs 23 crore 97 lakh. The Dharampuri Sewerage Project has also been awarded the SKOCH Award for its excellent operation.

In the tourist town Bhedaghat, proper disposal of sewage water from a population of more than 5 thousand is being done through a sewerage project worth Rs 17 crore 53 lakh. The sewerage project has been completed in Shajapur at a cost of about Rs 92 crore 93 lakh. More than one lakh population is benefiting from this project. The work of the Shahdol Sewerage Project is also going on at a fast pace. This project costs Rs 199 crore. Under this scheme, more than 21 thousand houses will be connected to the sewerage network. More than 25 thousand houses will be given sewerage connections through the sewerage project costing Rs 263 crore in Chhindwara. In Maheshwar, a city of religious importance, a population of 25 thousand will get the benefit of the sewerage project for Rs 55 crore 57 lakh. Sewerage project work costing Rs 42 crore is also being done at a rapid pace in Bhainruda of Sehore district. 4247 houses will be connected to the sewerage network through the project. In this, 66 percent work has been completed.

Water Supply Scheme

The work on the water supply project in Khargone is almost completed. Through this project, pure water is being provided to a population of 1 lakh 50 thousand. Khargone water supply scheme has been prepared with World Bank assistance. The cost of this project is approximately Rs 125 crore.

Similarly, the work of the water supply project in Burhanpur for Rs 207 crore is being done rapidly. Experimental testing is being done here. The work of a water supply project for Rs 39 crore is in progress in Sevdha, Datia. Here, action is being taken to connect more than 4 thousand houses with tap connections.

The sewerage project prepared with the help of the World Bank is also helping in making the rivers pollution-free. Dharampuri and Bhedaghat Sewerage Project has been helpful in the conservation of the Narmada River. Completion of the Maheshwar Sewerage Project will help in the conservation of Narmada River and the Chhindwara Sewerage Project will help in the conservation of the Bodri and Kulbehara River. Similarly, Chillar River is being cleaned through the Shajapur Sewerage Project.

The special thing about the project is that with the help of the World Bank, the water obtained by treating the effluent water in the Dharampuri Sewerage Project is being used for works like gardening, vehicle washing, fire fighting, etc. The project works in these bodies are being completed with quality by Madhya Pradesh Urban Development Company.
