As the AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal is trying hard to bring back auto rickshaws vote base once again, the Delhi BJP posted a video of “Sheesh Mahal” highlighting his lavish lifestyle at 7 Flag Staff Road bungalow during his tenure as chief minister. The video shared by Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva highlights the extravagant amenities in the house, including a gym, sauna, and Jacuzzi, what he referred to as Kejriwal's "glass palace of debauchery" and a "Sheesh Mahal" (palace of mirrors). Sachdeva claimed that the total cost for marble, granite, and lighting amounts to Rs 1.9 Crore, while installation and civil work cost Rs 1.5 Crore, and the gym and spa equipment and fittings are valued at Rs 35 Lakh.
According to Sachdeva, these features add up to Rs 3.75 Crore, which he claims was funded by taxpayers' money. He juxtaposed the finances of the common man. Sachdeva said that for the same amount of Rs 3.75 crore, a common man could buy 34 of DDA’s EWS flats, 15 of their LIG flats, 150 CNG autos, or 326 e-rickshaws.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders strongly rebuffed allegations made by Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva regarding the former official residence of Arvind Kejriwal when he was the Chief Minister, terming them baseless propaganda by the BJP. Responding to the claims by the Delhi BJP chief on the former official residence which has been dubbed 'Sheesh mahal' by the party, former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia launched a scathing attack, saying, "The BJP has no achievements to showcase. "Instead of answering critical questions about mismanagement of funds for schools, mid-day meals, and hospitals in states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, they focus on Kejriwal's former official residence. People ask about education and health reforms, they talk about a bungalow."
In the video, Sachdeva criticized Kejriwal for contradicting his earlier promises of living a simple life, stating that the former Chief Minister had previously sworn not to take government housing, vehicles, or security. Sachdeva added, "Those who swear on their children and falsely promise not to take government house, car, and security are now looting the money of Delhi's taxpayers. Meanwhile, the common people of Delhi can only dream of owning a DDA EWS flat or an auto-rickshaw."The BJP also raised concerns over the fact that Kejriwal has yet to formally vacate the official bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road.
Sachdeva said, "Corruption is the main issue of this election. We will keep saying again and again that Arvind Kejriwal has looted Delhi in 10 years. Today, we have shown you a video of the 'Sheesh Mahal'. Bathroom and gym, facilities like in a seven-star resort, have been built for Rs 4 crore. This was done by a 'Aam Aadmi' (common man) like Arvind Kejriwal in his own house. Arvind Kejriwal has cheated Delhi. He has looted Delhi in the last ten years. Our fight against corruption will continue."
"The people of Delhi are aware. Delhi is the capital of the country. Everyone knows that Arvind Kejriwal, who used to say that I will live in a two-room flat and will not take a government house or bungalow, how did he arrange for things of luxury for himself. Where did he get the money from? This black money from liquor, which could have been spent on the development of Delhi, he has spent it on his luxury," Said Sachdeva.
