In keeping with the schedule set by a top legal authority, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will organise a National Lok Adalat at all wards and zones in the state capital on September 14.
In accordance with the guidelines of Member Secretary of the National Legal Services Authority, Lok Adalat camps will be held at all BMC zone and ward offices.
At the lok adalat, residents will be able to avail of exemptions in water cess and property tax surcharges in accordance with directives of the Urban Development and Housing Department.
BMC Commissioner Harendra Narayan has directed extensive preparations for the camps, He has issued directives to officials to aim for full recovery of outstanding amounts from property tax, water consumer charges, and other dues.
He appealed to the public to take advantage of the exemption on surcharges for their property tax and water rates cases and to resolve these matters at their respective zone and ward offices.
At the camps, citizens with property tax arrears between Rs 50,000-100,000 are being offered a full exemption from surcharges and penalties.
A 25 per cent waiver is also being offered to residents with property tax arrears of above Rs. 100,000.Similarly, consumers with water tax arrears up to ?10,000, will be given a full waiver of surcharges and a 50 per cent waiver will be given to consumers with arrears of over Rs.50,000. This exemption will be available only once and will apply only to arrears up to the financial year 2023-24. Those availing the exemptions will be required to to clear their dues in a maximum of two installments.
