Bokaro, June 10: In a ceremony held in the conference room of the Administrative Director (Works) on June 10, Bokaro Steel Plant was awarded the prestigious Kalinga Environment Excellence Award in the category of "Environmental Excellence." The award was presented to the Director-in-charge of Bokaro Steel Plant B.K Tiwai by Rajan Prasad, (P & A / Works). The event was attended by senior executives and plant officials. The award ceremony took place on June 8, 2024, in Bhubaneswar, organized by the Institute of Quality.
Notably on May 15, 2024, before the members of the Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Industries Department, Hyderabad, and the State Pollution Control Board, Odisha, Nitesh Ranjan, Assistant General Manager (Environment), made a presentation. All questions raised by the committee members were accurately addressed by N.P. Srivastava, General Manager (Environment).
The proactive initiatives of Bokaro Steel Plant in environmental conservation and adoption of sustainable practices in steel production significantly impressed the committee. Under the leadership of Director-in-charge B.K Tiwari, BSL has launched campaigns integrating circular economy, energy efficiency, and environmental protection across various sectors.
It is noteworthy that BSL has achieved a reduction of 12.07% in particulate matter emissions and a 77.3% decrease in specific effluent discharge over the past three fiscal years. Additionally, BSL achieved 100% utilization of solid waste during the financial years 2022-23 and 2023-24.
