Stating that if no legal obstacles arise, the elections for the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC) will be held soon, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday urged members of the Sikh community to register as many names as possible in the voter list of the HSGMC. The State Government has abolished the earlier fee of Rs 100 for registering names. A campaign will be launched to create voter IDs, he said.

The Chief Minister assured that Assandh would be made a district, stating that a sub-committee of the cabinet has been formed for this purpose. Asandh will be made a district once the necessary norms are fulfilled.

Addressing members of the Sikh community led by Jagdish Singh Jhinda in Chandigarh, Saini said that the present state government is committed to spread the teachings of Guru Sahibs to the present and coming generations. He urged everyone to follow the path of goodwill, tolerance, brotherhood, and mutual love shown by the Sikh Gurus in their lives, stating that this is the true mantra for human welfare and the real devotion to the Sikh Gurus.

Saini said that during his tenure, the government provided land to Gurdwara Sri Chilla Sahib in Sirsa, where the holy feet of Guru Nanak Dev Ji once touched.  He further shared that Prime Minister Modi has made numerous announcements for the Sikh religion over the past decade, including observing December 26 as Veer Bal Diwas', to mark the martyrdom of sons of Sri Guru Gobind Singh - Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji. On this occasion, members of the Sikh community also presented a memorandum of demands  before the Chief Minister.

‘A Govt institution to be named after Namdev Maharaj’

In another event on the occasion of Sant Shiromani Namdev Ji's Jayanti, Saini announced to give  Rs 21 lakh for the Maham Dharamshala in Rohtak and Rs 31 lakh for Namdev Dharamshalas across various locations in the state. Besides this, a government institution would be named after Namdev Maharaj, he said. Addressing the members of the Namdev community, he praised Sant Shiromani Namdev Ji's lifelong dedication to eradicating social evils and his commitment to the welfare of humanity.

During the event, members of the Namdev community honored the Chief Minister by presenting him with a turban. In response, the Chief Minister remarked that this honor belongs to the entire Namdev community and pledged never to diminish the respect associated with the turban. Saini said that the doors of the Chief Minister's residence are always open to every community and class in the state. He also assured the gathering that more than a dozen demands raised by the Namdev community would be addressed promptly.
