On the occasion of birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,  Delhi Lt Governor(LG)V K Saxena on Tuesday announced recording of ownership rights of agricultural land in urbanised villages of the Capital, on the basis of inheritance.

This historic decision will positively impact the lives of lakhs of Delhi residents and will meet a long pending demand of people, who had been denied their natural right of inheritance since 2010, Delhi Development Authority(DDA)said.

Saxena, who has been frequently visiting villages of the Capital, was presented with this demand and related grievances in every single village that he visited.  Apart from this, several civic society organizations have demanded the same.

In the Samvaad organized at Raj Niwas with residents of villages in the Capital, mutation had emerged as the primary demand and a delegation of all seven MPs from Delhi had met the LG and presented representation for the same.

Meanwhile, Saxena on Tuesday also laid foundation stone for 41 new projects and inaugurated seven projects spread across in 18 villages of North-West Delhi under the Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan (DGA).

During the ceremony, the Namo Drone Didi Scheme and domestic PNG in 21 Villages of North West Delhi were also inaugurated.

This comes as part of the larger mission inspired by the vision of the Prime Minister, whose guiding principle of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ aims to ensure ease of living and the upliftment of rural India.

Manoj Tiwari, MP North East Delhi, Yogender Chandolia, MP North West Delhi, Bansuri Swaraj, MP New Delhi, Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, MP South Delhi, Kamaljeet Sehrawat, MP West Delhi,  Dharmendra, Chief Secretary Delhi, and Subhasish Panda, Vice Chairman DDA were also present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, the LG said, "Today is the birthday of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji and the day will go down as a historic day for the villages of Delhi. I want to tell you that from today onwards, mutation of agricultural land in the urbanised villages of Delhi on the basis of inheritance will now be done by the revenue authorities as it used to be done earlier."  He further said that this work will be started by setting up camps in the villages this week itself.

On the occasion, sports icons- Sharad Kumar, silver medallist para jumper at 2024 Paralympics and Ravi Dahiya, silver medallist wrestler at 2020 Olympics were also felicitated.

The Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan, launched in December 2023, is a key step towards providing better amenities to rural Delhi.

Till date, 573 projects worth Rs 523 crore have been sanctioned, with funds of about Rs 960 crore transferred to DDA for development works in various villages.

Out of these, 89 projects are being executed by DDA. While DDA is a nodal agency, it is working in sync with various civic agencies like MCD, I&FC, etc to effectively implement the project.

The Abhiyan focuses on enhancing the living conditions in villages of the Capital by providing vital civic amenities.

Earlier this month, Saxena had launched 22 projects in 18 villages of South-West Delhi, while last week he laid foundation stones for 47 projects in 29 villages of North Delhi. The developmental works launched on Tuesday will cover villages across North-West Delhi, under the subdivisions of Kanjhawala, Rohini, and Saraswati Vihar.

In addition, many successful completed works were inaugurated, such as provision/installation of street lighting arrangement in Kirari Suleman Nagar, Mangolpur Khurd, Mubarakpur Dabas, Haiderpur, Sahipur, and Shakurpur which will light up the dark spots thus increasing safety in these areas.
