Monday, 05 August 2024 | PNS | Bhopal

Madhya Pradesh has emerged as the most promissing destination in India's mining and mineral sector. It has scored significant achievements. Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav is visiting Bengaluru for a two-day industry meet on August 8. Dr Mohan Yadav will showcase the richness of mineral wealth and investment opportunities. He will urge industrialists to invest in mineral sector.

It is noteworthy that Madhya Pradesh has also received the national award for Mineral Auctioning Process.

Madhya Pradesh will soon be undergoing the process of auctioning 33 blocks of aluminum, laterite, bauxite, diamond, gold, limestone, and manganese ore. Similarly, the auction process for 17 coal blocks is also underway. The auction process is ongoing for 20 blocks of major minerals, including manganese, diamond, bauxite, laterite, gold, base metal, and limestone.

With these preparations and rich mineral deposits Madhya Pradesh offers countless investment opportunities. The state has received the first award for mineral auctioning. Last year, an auction of 51 blocks took place, setting a record.

The major mineral resources found in Madhya Pradesh include coal, limestone, diamond, and pyrophyllite. Madhya Pradesh is the fourth largest coal-producing state in the country, with abundant coal reserves in Singrauli, Sidhi, Chhindwara, Betul, Shahdol, Anuppur, Umaria, and Narsinghpur. Coal is used in thermal power plants and coal gasification plants, offering substantial investment potential for related industries.

Similarly, there are significant limestone reserves in the state. Abundant reserves are found in Rewa, Satna, Sidhi, Maihar, Damoh, Katni, Panna, Dhar, and Neemuch. Madhya Pradesh holds 9% of the total limestone reserves in the country, making it an ideal investment location for the cement industry. The improvements in logistics have also enhanced connectivity between Madhya Pradesh and other states in the country.

About 90% of country's diamond reserves are found in Madhya Pradesh, specifically in Panna and Chhatarpur. In this regard, five blocks have been identified for diamond business parks and composite licenses.

Madhya Pradesh is a leading state in pyrophyllite production, contributing 41% of the country's production. The largest reserves of 14 million tons are found in Chhatarpur, Shivpuri, and Tikamgarh. Given these reserves, the state is a highly profitable investment location for the ceramic, pottery, porcelain, and tiles industries.

Rich Mineral Resources

Madhya Pradesh is rich in mineral resources. Iron, quartz, and flagstone are found in Gwalior and Shivpuri. Rock phosphate, dolomite, limestone, manganese, and graphite are present in Jhabua and Alirajpur. Limestone is found in Neemuch, coal, graphite, granite, lead, and zinc in Betul. Coal, manganese, and dolomite are in Chhindwara, copper, manganese, dolomite, limestone, and bauxite in Balaghat, and diamonds, dolomite, and bauxite in Mandla and Dindori. Coal, gold, iron, and other minerals are found in Singrauli, while coal, coal bed methane, bauxite, and other minerals are present in Shahdol, Anuppur, and Umaria. Diamonds, rock phosphate, diaspor, iron, and granite are in Sagar, Chhatarpur, and Panna. Dolomite, iron ore, limestone, manganese, gold, and marble are found in Jabalpur.

Coal production is 361,411 metric tons. Madhya Pradesh has 30,914 metric tons of coal reserves, which is 8% of the country's reserves. Limestone reserves in the country are 19,028.5 metric tons, with Madhya Pradesh holding 1,692 metric tons, which is 9% of the national reserves. Iron ore reserves in the country are 6,209 metric tons, with Madhya Pradesh holding 54.1 metric tons, which is 1% of the national reserves.
