Police nab history-sheeter with more than 50 cases lodged against him

The Delhi Police on Wednesday night arrested 61 year old man who is wanted more than 50 cases of rioting, abduction, murder, attempt to murder, extortion, arson to terror funding, explosives act, counterfeit currency, and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) act UAPA in central Delhi’s Nabi Karim.

The accused has been identified as Assadullah Biswas, who is also wanted in a sensational case of riot and murder in West Bengal’s Malda on August 18. DCP Central M Harshavardhan said, “On Wednesday, at around 9:00 pm, secret information was received that a wanted person namely Assadullah Biswas, resident of Malda, West Bengal, who is involved in more than 50 heinous cases is wanted in a case Kaliachawk police station and is currently hiding in a hotel in area of Nabi Karim police station, New Delhi.”

He added that being a dangerous accused, a raiding team was formed to track down the accused. “At about 10:00 PM, team of Special Staff Central District swept through the hotels and zeroed in at the exact room where accused, was caught.”

In the West Bengal case, FIR under sections 103(1) (punishment of murder), 109 (Attempt to murder), 115(2) (Voluntarily causing hurt), 118(2) (Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means), 126(2) (Wrongful restraint), 189(4) (Unlawful assembly), 191(2) (Rioting), 3(5) ( joint criminal liability when two or more individuals act in furtherance of a common intention) and 61(2) (Criminal conspiracy) of the BNS were lodged against Biswas.

During the course of investigation, the team interrogated him in detail. Accused Assadullah Biswas informed that he has studied upto 12th standard from the school of his native place in Malda district. “He has been involved in cases since 1984. He was arrested in September 2016 after he led a mob to burn the Kaliachawk Police Station,” the DCP added.

The accused also claimed that he and his family have many political links and came to Delhi on September 7 by train. “In addition to the 50 cases, he has cases of National Investigative Agency (NIA) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) also against him. The accused has also been jointly interrogated by officers from various agencies,” the DCP stated, adding that six mobile phone with cash of Rs 25,000 was recovered from his possesion which were used by him to mislead the investigating agencies.
