In a significant boost to the transportation infrastructure of Odisha and Jharkhand, Droupadi Murmu, the President, will lay the foundation stones for three new rail lines under the South Eastern Railway on December 7. The new rail lines, connecting key regions in Odisha and Jharkhand, are expected to greatly enhance connectivity, stimulate economic growth, and improve living standards in the region.

The projects are as follows: Badampahar-Kendujhargarh New Rail Line: This 82-km rail line, which will pass through the Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts of Odisha, will be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹2,106 crores. The new line will improve rail connectivity, making it easier for local residents to access transportation services.

Bangriposi-Gorumahisani New Rail Line: Spanning 86 km, this rail line will enhance connectivity within the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha. With a construction cost of ₹2,549 crores, it will facilitate the movement of passengers and freight, contributing to regional economic growth.

Buramara-Chakulia New Rail Line: Connecting the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha and East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, this 60-km line will be built at a cost of ₹1,639 crores. The new rail link will significantly improve access between these mineral-rich areas and boost the local economy by enhancing the transportation of goods, particularly for the industrial sector.

The introduction of these new rail lines will bring immense benefits to local residents who have long been deprived of efficient rail communication. The improved connectivity will open up new business opportunities and foster economic development in these regions. Additionally, the construction of the new lines is expected to create new job opportunities, especially in the industrial and transportation sectors, which will further boost the local economy.

Moreover, with enhanced rail transport, residents will gain better access to medical and educational facilities, improving their quality of life. These new lines are also expected to stimulate the growth and development of backward areas in Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar districts of Odisha, as well as East Singhbhum district in Jharkhand.

“ The foundation stone-laying ceremony will mark a significant milestone in the region’s development and is expected to have a far-reaching impact on the social and economic fabric of the area. The President’s visit highlights the government's commitment to improving infrastructure and fostering sustainable development in the region,” said an official of SER.
