In a daring incident, the son of a retired police sub-inspector was shot at in a fight for supremacy in Gomti Nagar on Wednesday night, exposing the tall claims of police over intense night patrolling.
The injured youth is said to have a criminal past and is a history-sheeter in Lucknow.
Identified as Dhananjay Singh, the youth sustained gunshot injuries in his leg and is admitted in the SPM (Civil) Hospital. His arch rival, Avinash Singh alias Sinku, has been named as the main assailant and the police have launched a search for him.
Dhananjay was shot at when he was sitting in a car outside his house in Gomti Nagar late Wednesday night. The bullet hit his right leg. Dhananjay’s friend was also present with him at the time of the attack.
The victim’s father is a retired sub-inspector.
According to the police, retired sub-inspector Ram Sahodar lives with his family in Vipul Khand of Gomti Nagar. On Wednesday night, his son Dhananjay was sitting in the car outside the house with his friend Rahul when five unknown youths suddenly attacked him. The assailants opened fire at Dhananjay, injuring him.
When Rahul raised an alarm, the assailants ran to beat him too, but seeing a crowd of people gathering there, they escaped.
Dhananjay has a history-sheet in his name at Gomti Nagar police station and he is also in property dealing.
Police have registered a case.
Rahul’s wife Juhi Singh alias Preeti Singh, who was also present at the time of the incident, informed the police about the attack. She later filed a complaint.
It surfaced that Rahul had gone to meet Dhananjay at the latter’s house and both were talking while sitting in Rahul’s luxury car. Suddenly, 4-5 people came with sticks and country-made pistols and fired three shots at Rahul and Dhananjay. While Dhananjay Singh was hit by a bullet, Rahul had a narrow escape.
However, when Rahul tried to run away, the assailants caught him and attacked him with the butt of the gun, injuring him also.
The injured youth’s family alleged that 2-3 days ago, one Avinash Singh alias Sinku had threatened to kill Rahul and Dhananjay.
