Within a fortnight of alleged accidental firing from the licensed pistol of a sub-inspector during a raid in Aligarh in which a constable was killed and a SI was injured, yet another similar incident was reported from Chitrakoot on Friday.

During a surprise visit of a police station by the deputy inspector general of police, a sub-inspector’s pistol allegedly went off, seriously injuring two sub-inspectors. Both were taken to hospital and further investigations are on by the senior officers.

According to information, DIG (Chitrakoot) Ajay Kumar Singh had come to Pahadi police station of Chitrakoot district for inspection. During the inspection on Friday, the service pistol of Sub-Inspector Nanakau Gautam suddenly went off when he was taking it out of the holster.

Sub-Inspector Nanakau Gautam was seriously injured as the bullet hit him on his stomach. Sub-inspector Suresh Bahadur Singh, who was standing next to Gautam, was also hit by the bullet on his hand.

Both have been admitted to the district hospital.

On behalf of the police, Superintendent of Police Arun Singh said that the incident happened due to the negligence of Nanakau Gautam. No decision has been taken on action against Gautam at the moment.

Late in the night of July 17, a police constable had lost his life during a joint raid by Aligarh police and members of the Special Operation Group (SOG) to arrest accused involved in cow slaughtering in Gabhana locality of the district. While loading the arms before the raid, the safety lock of the pistol of Sub-Inspector Mazhar Hasan got stuck. When Sub-Inspector Rajiv Kumar tried to unlock the pistol, it suddenly went off and the bullet pierced his stomach and hit the head of SOG constable Mohammad Yakub who died on the spot. The sub-inspector is being treated in the hospital.
