Pretty in Pastels

Pastels take over summer 2025, bringing a serene elegance to fashion and everyday life, says SAKSHI PRIYA

August slipped away into a moment in time...” Taylor Swift’s lyric sets the tone for summer 2025 soft, romantic and full of feeling. This season, fashion is leaning into pastels with renewed purpose. From pistachio and butter yellow to blush pink, mint green and powder blue, these shades have captured the spotlight across collections, editorials, and social feeds alike.
There’s something undeniably fresh about the pastel palette this year. It speaks of calm confidence, easy elegance and a desire for lightness after seasons of excess. Designers are embracing subtle colour in strong silhouettes — flowing skirts, tailored suits, cropped jackets — proving that softness can be powerful. These tones reflect a collective shift — towards clarity, wearability, and charm that lasts.

ROMANTIC, REWORKED

This pink is tender, not theatrical. Cotton candy pink was everywhere in fluid midi skirts, cropped jackets, and easy day dresses. Far from overly sweet, it is being presented in tailored, wearable shapes that make it ideal for grown-up dressing with a soft edge.

A CALM CONSTANT

Sage green, elegant and easy to wear, has found its place across spring collections. It appears in long skirts, flowing dresses, and co-ordinated sets, ideal for those who prefer grounded style over the theatrical. It’s a refined alternative to beige or grey, and carries a modern, earthy confidence.
Style a sage green ankle-length skirt with a crisp cotton blouse and tan leather sandals. Gold jewellery and a cream handbag complement the look effortlessly.

THE REFINED REFRESH

Once reserved for interiors and gelato menus, pistachio green is now one of fashion’s leading colours. From wide-legged trousers to tailored blazers and silky blouses, it lends itself beautifully to both daywear and occasion dressing.
Style Suggestion: A pistachio green wrap dress paired with off-white heels and minimal jewellery creates a clean, elevated outfit that can easily transition from brunch to evening gathering.

LIGHT, BUT IMPACTFUL

There’s an understated elegance to butter yellow. It appeared in shirt dresses, pleated skirts and belted jackets this season. Less vibrant than lemon and subtler than neon, this version of yellow adds warmth without overpowering. Pair a butter yellow A-line skirt with neutral-toned top and simple slides. Finish the look with a crossbody and brushed gold hoops.

POLISHED AND PRACTICAL

Cool and collected, sky blue made appearances in shirting, light knits and versatile summer suiting. It’s a colour that works just as well at work as it does at a weekend lunch, offering structure and serenity in one.

Wear It This Way: A cropped jacket in sky blue over a white dress, paired with simple trainers or loafers, makes for a look that is as wearable as it is elegant.

OTHER PASTELS WE’RE LOVING

This season also welcomes mauve, peach blush, lavender and powder mint into the spotlight. Mauve, in particular, laooks stunning in satin slip skirts, Lavender pairs beautifully with grey, while powder mint looks especially fresh in summer.

PASTEL ACCESSORIES: DETAILS THAT MATTER

This year’s accessories are equally considered. Think soft leather handbags in powder pink or lilac, classic headbands in pastel satins, and ballet flats in pistachio or cornflower blue. Even jewellery has taken a gentler turn, brushed metals, pearl details, and enamel accents are popular choices.

Key Pieces:

  •  Pistachio-toned mini shoulder bags
  •  Sky blue ballet flats
  • Blush pink belts and headbands
  •  Lightweight scarves in tonal pastels

STYLE APPROACH: UNDERSTATED, BUT INTENTIONAL

  •  Mix and Match: Pair multiple pastel tones together for an effortless look that still feels curated.
  • Keep It Clean: Let the colours speak, avoid heavy prints or over-layering.
  • Play with Contrast: Add white, camel or denim to balance out the softness.
  • Pastel suiting especially in pistachio or blush, is ideal for spring events and workwear transitions.

THE AESTHETIC APPEAL OF PASTELS

In recent years, wearing pastels has shifted from being seen as a just style choice to a statement of sophistication. People now find themselves gravitating towards these colours because they’re considered “aesthetic.” You can wear a loud red, but the moment you wear pastel hues, you are labelled as fashionable, serene and aesthetically in tune with the times. Everywhere you look, pastels are becoming a standard of visual appeal.
