2 intruders neutralised along LoC in North Kashmir

Wednesday, 15 October 2025 | Mohit Kandhari

Two heavily armed intruders were neutralised after Indian Army jawans foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.

A joint operation was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir police in the Machhal sector of Kupwara late Monday evening based on specific intelligence input about the possible infiltration bid from across the line of control.

As the troops noticed suspicious movement along the LoC in Kupwara late Monday night, they challenged the intruders. A brief exchange of fire took place between the two sides. Throughout the night, the troops maintained a tight cordon in the forward areas to prevent trapped intruders from breaching the cordon.

“Based on specific intelligence input by JKP & corroborated by sources and agencies, regarding a likely infiltration attempt, a joint operation was launched by Indian Army and @JmuKmrPolice in the Machhal Sector, Kupwara on 13 Oct 2025.

“Alert troops spotted suspicious activity and challenged, which resulted in terrorists opening indiscriminate fire. Troops responded with effective fire, neutralising two terrorists. Large quantities of weapons and equipment recovered,” the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps said in a post on X.

The operation is in progress, it said. In Jammu, Western Army commander Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar on Tuesday said that Pakistan has no capacity to fight India, but it may attempt Pahalgam-type attacks again.

Interacting with the media persons after attending an event marking the commemoration of the Diamond Jubilee of India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1965 war, the senior Army Officer also maintained that Pakistan continues its policy of “bleed India through a thousand cuts” and said the Army is fully prepared to deal with it.

“The action we will take this time will be deadlier than the past. It would be more powerful. Yes, you are very right. It (Operation Sindoor 2.0) has to be deadlier. There is no doubt about it,” Lt Gen Katiyar told reporters.

He was replying to a question whether Operation Sindoor 2.0 will be deadlier than the first one.

Asked whether there will be Pahalgam-type attacks in the future by Pakistan, he said that until there is a change in Pakistan’s thinking, it will continue to carry out such mischief.

“It does not have the capacity to fight a war with us. They do not want to fight a war. It does mischief as per its policy of ‘bleed India through a thousand cuts’.” The Western Army commander said that India had inflicted heavy damage on Pakistan in Operation Sindoor. “We have destroyed its posts and air bases, but it may again attempt something (Pahalgam-type attack). We have to remain prepared. We are fully prepared. I am confident the action this time will be deadlier than in the past,” he said.

Earlier, during his address to ex-servicemen, he said Pakistan may try to attack again like it did in Pahalgam. “They do not have the courage to face us directly. Pakistan will not desist from its designs. But the Indian Army is ready to foil it. For that, we need support from the people, particularly veterans. We are hopeful that veterans will support us,” he said.

Addressing a mega rally of Ex-servicemen, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the 1965 war victory and recent Operation Sindoor were the result of the valour and sacrifice of soldiers of the Indian armed forces, which is considered among the strongest across the globe.

“Operation Sindoor gave a message to the world that we will avenge every drop of an Indian citizen’s blood. No one can dare raise their eyes towards our country,” the Lieutenant Governor said. He also recalled the valour of 26 Infantry Division during Operation Sindoor and the army’s selfless work in saving people’s lives during recent natural calamities. Lt Gen Rajan Sharawat, GOC, 9 Corps; Maj Gen. Mukesh Bhanwala, GoC, 26 Infantry Division; Ramesh Kumar, Divisional Commissioner Jammu; Lt Gen RK Sharma (Retd.), President, J&K Ex-Services League; Brig. Gurmeet Singh Shan (Retd.), Director, Sainik Welfare, J&K; senior officers of Police and Civil Administration; war veterans, ex-servicemen and veer naris were also present on the occasion.
