Bengal Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday slammed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for allowing “communal elements” like former — Trinamool Congress MLA — Humayun Kabir to thrive in the State by providing them political patronage.
Adhikari’s Statement came soon after Kabir — who was on Thursday suspended from his party on Thursday — laid the foundation stone of a proposed Babri Mosque at Beldanga in Murshidabad district bordering Bangladesh.
“It is a very dangerous step we have no problem if anyone constructs a mosque or a temple or a church anywhere but where the name of Babar is being used it becomes really dangerous because everyone knows that Pathans and Mughals invaded India, tortured the Hindus and converted thousands of them, looted their wealth and women, we have problem not with the mosque but with the name he was not Indian. He was a rapist and a robber. His name was invoked without any permission,” Adhikari said, blaming the Chief Minister for making what Kabir had become today.
Adhikari was taking part in a rally on the occasion of “Saurya Diwas” that started in front of Swami Vivekananda’s residence and marched a few kilometers till Shyambazar crossing in North Kolkata.
Wondering why the Chief Minister would not take action against Kabir when he during the last general elections threatened to cut and throw the 30 per cent population (Hindus) of Murshidabad in River Bhagirathi (Ganges), Adhikari said, “Mamata Banerjee provided police protection to men like Humayun Kabir where as one has to approach the court to celebrate Saraswati Puja, a few days ago, the police transported Goddess Kali in a prison van, instead of taking action against a section of the population who were disturbing the Puja today’s development will not bring any peace.”
However, Kabir, who managed to draw many thousands of people to witness the foundation stone laying ceremony, said that he was not doing anything unconstitutional by setting up a mosque.
“I am not doing anything unconstitutional. Anyone can build a temple or, church. I will build a mosque. It is not written anywhere that I cannot build the Babri mosque if a Ram Temple can be built at Sagardighi, why cannot a Babri Mosque be build here.” A Hindu religious organisation has been building a replica of the Ayodhya Ram Temple at Sagardighi, which is also in the Murshidabad district.
Meanwhile, even as the Trinamool Congress on Saturday observed a Sanhati Diwas (Solidarity Day), the Chief Minister took to the social media, saying her struggle to contain communal hatred would continue.
