Wednesday, 29 October 2025 | Parvesh Sharma

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) and Vedanta Group’s Anil Agarwal Foundation signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote animal welfare in the city on Tuesday.

The agreement, signed under Vedanta Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, aims to bring substantial improvements in animal welfare within MCG limits. The Foundation will begin on-ground work within the next three months.

The MoU was signed by MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya on behalf of the MCG and Ritu Jhingon, Chairperson of the Anil Agarwal Foundation, on behalf of Vedanta Group. The agreement will initially remain valid for 15 years, with the option to extend it for another 15 years.

As per the MoU, the initiative will include sterilization and vaccination of street dogs across the city.

The Animal Birth Control (ABC) centres located in Begumpur Khatola and Basai will be operated under this partnership, and more centres will be added as per project requirements to ensure effective implementation across all municipal wards.

In addition, a mobile health clinic will be launched, and future plans include setting up an animal hospital and an animal crematorium.

An initial investment of `10 crore has been allocated for the project. The funds will be used for sterilization, vaccination, upgradation of animal care centres, and procurement of necessary resources.

Commissioner Dahiya emphasized that the initiative is vital not only for animal welfare but also for urban sanitation and public safety. “Through this MoU, our goal is to ensure that no part of the city is left out of a humane and scientific street dog management system,” he said.

Vedanta Group’s Non-Executive Director Priya Agarwal stated that the company is committed to contributing to public and animal welfare through its CSR initiatives.

“We are delighted to partner with the Government of Haryana to strengthen the state’s animal welfare infrastructure. With an investment of INR10 crore towards the operation of ABC centres, our goal is to establish a sustainable model for the humane and compassionate management of free-roaming animals. We remain committed to ensuring access to state-of-the-art veterinary care across Haryana as we collectively work towards the vision of One Health.”
