Namo Bharat introduces loyalty points for free travel

Thursday, 27 March 2025 | Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

In an effort to increase ridership, Namo Bharat train commuters can enjoy free trips by redeeming their loyalty points. Under the Loyalty Points Program, recently introduced by NCRTC, commuters earn loyalty points every time they generate a digital QR ticket through the Namo Bharat app or travel using the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC).

A statement by NCRTC also said on Wednesday every rupee spent on a journey using a NCMC card or the Namo Bharat app earns one Loyalty Point, with each point valued at `0.10 (10 paise). Once a commuter accumulates a minimum of 300 loyalty points, they can redeem them for a free trip.

Under the loyalty program, the points accumulated by commuters using NCMC cards are credited to the commuter’s NCMC account at the end of each operational day. These points are reflected in their NCMC account the next day. For example, if a commuter spends `100 on his travel, he gets 100 points equivalent to `10, which is added to his NCMC account. Once sufficient points are accumulated, passengers can redeem them. To eliminate the hassle of redeeming points repeatedly by commuters, a provision has also been made to redeem five trips at a time.

Points equivalent to the fare of these five trips will be deducted from the passengers’ NCMC account. The redeemed trips are valid for seven days, which means if a five-trip pass is redeemed, all five trips must be used within the stipulated time limit of seven days. Commuters using NCMC can check their accumulated points at Ticket Vending Machines (TVMs), ticket readers or ticket counters.

Commuters can use any NCMC card issued by any Metro or Transport Authority or Financial institution in the country to travel in the Namo Bharat Trains. This system has been in the place from the first day of operations of the service. For those using the Namo Bharat app to generate digital QR tickets, checking and redeeming loyalty points is simple. The points are displayed under the “account” section of the application, and redemption is just a click away.

By selecting the ‘loyalty points’ option and choosing “redeem”, commuters can book their tickets, with points deducted according to the fare between their selected stations. If they have any queries, they can refer to the FAQ section under the ‘Namo Bharat’ segment in the app’s ‘my account’ section.

This initiative is not just about offering discounts on journeys but also about promoting paperless ticketing, making travel more seamless while contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future.

The loyalty program is designed to benefit frequent commuters of Namo Bharat trains, helping them save more with every journey. Frequent commuters can unlock accumulative loyalty points with each trip, making every ride more accessible. Commuters are encouraged to download the Namo Bharat mobile app for a more efficient and comfortable travel experience. New users of the Namo Bharat app receive 500 loyalty points (equivalent to `50) upon downloading.

Additionally, users can earn an extra 500 loyalty points by referring others to the app, with both the referrer and the referee receiving `50 worth of points in their respective accounts. All loyalty points remain valid for one year from the date of credit, ensuring continuous engagement and frequent travel. The Namo Bharat application is available for download on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
