The newly nominated Bengal BJP president Samik Bhattacharya on Thursday called out for a ‘flagless’ unity of opposition for Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s “Visarjan” (immersion in water) “and for Parivartan (change of political power).”
Bhattacharya said, “There has been an all-round collapse in Bengal, so in order to restore our State where no IT worker or an engineer will be rendered into a majdoor (manual worker) and no educated person will have to become a migrant labourer, a time has come to make Parivartan (political change) but Visarjan (immersion) of corrupt rule.”
“In Bengal, we started from a scratch. Today, the people of this State have given us a position and from here it is clearly evident that the defeat of the TMC is imminent. The people of the State have made up their minds to end the misrule of this corrupt TMC Government,” he said. Indira Gandhi’s humiliation in Bangladesh, Bhattacharya appealed to the Congress men saying, “She was my Prime Minister also though I have different political ideology. I cannot tolerate the humiliation that her name is subjected to in Bangladesh, so a time has come when the BJP’s hands to be strengthened. I appeal to all to unite in order to end corrupt regime of criminals and anti-socials in State.”
“The BJP has never been against the Muslims. The BJP is against violence and communalism, we want the processions of both Durga Puja and Muharram to be organised together,” he said.
Bhattacharya was elected in presence of central party observer and former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.
Sate Opposition Leader Suvendu Adhikari who was also present during the felicitation programme at the Science City auditorium in Kolkata, however, maintained that, “It is the Hindus who will decide the fate of the State’s politics in the next year’s elections,” adding that the saffron party will “definitely come to power if 80 per cent Hindu votes are polled in favour of BJP.”
