Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Dr P K Mishra, on Saturday said  the vision of a $5 trillion economy is not just a GDP figure — it is about millions lifted from poverty, world-class infrastructure, energy security, and digital empowerment.

Addressing the graduate students during the ninth Annual Convocation of the Indian Institute of Management at Sambalpur, Mishra drew inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s grand vision of Amrit Kaal. Mishra reiterated PM wants all of us to take the country to the next level through the process of “reform, perform and transform”. In this endeavour all of us will be playing a critical role in ensuring that India becomes a developed country by 2047. Speaking on a theme “Opportunities and Challenges in the Current Geopolitical and Economic Context”, Mishra opined that we are living in an interesting and challenging time as the global economy is at a critical juncture, facing an array of complex challenges including disruptions in global supply chains, protectionist policies, heightened geopolitical tensions, and changing global trade patterns.

Mishra exemplified India’s prowess in becoming a global innovation powerhouse. He mentioned that with over 100 unicorns, we are the third-largest start-up ecosystem in the world. Talking about Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Schemes across sectors such as electronics, pharma and solar are driving manufacturing resurgence, Mishra highlighted that this opens up exciting roles in operations, logistics, supply chain strategy and manufacturing excellence.

Dr Mishra encouraged the students to be courageous and resilient in adversity.  In line with the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam – “The world is one family”, Dr Mishra concluded his deliberations by saying that leaders who think beyond profits and positions.  He exhorted the students to be managers who can manage not only businesses but also values, diversity and change.
