On his return to Amethi after a gap of nearly ten months since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi sought to reconnect with the people of his former constituency through a mix of developmental outreach and party-building efforts. His one-day visit was marked by emotional public interactions, strategic meetings with Congress workers, and the inauguration of a key healthcare facility.
Gandhi began the day by visiting the Ordnance Factory in Korwa, where he inspected indigenous weapons and technical equipment. Factory officials gave him a detailed briefing on the manufacturing processes and the push towards self-reliance in the D**EDS: THIRD PARTY IMAGE** In this image released by @MamataOfficial via X on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee offers prayer to Lord Jagannath enshrined in the ‘Garbhagriha’ of the newly inaugurated Jagannath Temple in Digha. Later, he inaugurated a newly built open-heart surgery operation theatre at the Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Munshiganj.
Addressing a small gathering, Gandhi said the new facility would allow cardiac patients to receive advanced treatment in Amethi itself, eliminating the need to travel to larger cities like Lucknow.
As part of his political outreach, Rahul Gandhi met senior Congress leaders and grassroots workers. He urged them to strengthen the party from the ground up — starting from gram panchayats to the district level. He emphasised the need for active participation by those willing to devote time to the party’s revival.
Throughout the visit, Gandhi received a warm welcome. In Fursatganj, at Usraha Baba Chauraha, hundreds of party workers led by District Congress President Pradeep Singla greeted him enthusiastically. Gandhi paused his convoy to personally interact with the workers, even stopping a band performance to better hear their concerns. In Jais town, he made an impromptu stop to greet children who had gathered to see him. Gandhi stepped out of his vehicle and handed out toffees, drawing smiles and excitement from the young crowd.
Congress leaders praised the visit as both symbolic and strategic. Former minister Ashish Shukla called it a ‘historic moment’ that blended public service with organisational renewal. Block Congress President Devmani Tiwari echoed the sentiment, calling the visit a major step in rejuvenating the party in Amethi.
