WB BLOs demand security for SIR
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) in Bengal have raised strong objections to conducting the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, demanding security, “on duty” deputation and additional assistants for larger booths. Many BLOs, who are also school teachers, highlighted the impossibility of balancing school responsibilities with door-to-door surveys, especially in remote areas and during early winter nights. Their concerns intensified amid political threats: some TMC leaders allegedly instructed workers to harass BLOs requesting sensitive documents, while Opposition leaders warned of FIRs, suspensions or jail for dereliction of duty. With tensions rising, BLOs insist they cannot perform duties without adequate protection.
