Mehli Mistry Exits Tata Trusts
Former Tata Trusts trustee Mehli Mistry has formally exited the organisation saying that “precipitating matters would cause irreparable harm to the reputation of the Tata Trusts”. Mistry, a close associate of Ratan Tata and cousin of former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry, had filed a caveat petition with the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner requesting a fair hearing before any removal action. He was voted out last week when his reappointment was opposed by trustees including Noel Tata, Venu Srinivasan and Vijay Singh. In his resignation letter, Mistry emphasised his commitment to Ratan Tata’s vision, highlighting ethical governance, transparency and public interest. His departure is seen as consolidating influence under Noel Tata, who became chairman earlier this year. During Ratan Tata’s tenure, voting was never an option within the Trusts. Decisions were traditionally reached through consensus and collective agreement — a practice now being tested amid signs of internal friction.
