Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium), Jul 26 (AP) Max Verstappen overtook Oscar Piastri to claim victory in the sprint race at the Belgian Grand Prix on Saturday, marking the start of a new chapter for Red Bull following the dismissal of team principal Christian Horner.
Verstappen wasted no time, surging past Piastri on the straight during the very first lap. Despite the Australian’s close pursuit throughout the 15-lap sprint, the four-time world champion maintained his lead and sealed the win.
Lando Norris, driving the other McLaren, took third place after a brief battle with Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, regaining the position in the later stages.
With this result, Piastri extends his lead over Norris in the sprint standings to nine points, up from eight.
Qualifying for Sunday’s main race is scheduled later on Saturday, with the full Grand Prix promising another exciting showdown at Spa.
