Amid speculation that the Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) state office at Subhash Nagar was locked by the landlord due to unpaid rent, party spokesperson Bhupendra Sharma on Friday categorically denied the claims.
Speaking to The Pioneer, Sharma stated that the office has been opening regularly at 11 a.m. every day. He suggested that someone might have arrived early in the morning before the office opened, leading to the misunderstanding. He said this after confirming with the office in charge and the secretary.
The rumours, which come less than a month after AAP faced an electoral drubbing at the hands of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the national capital, gained traction after pictures of the locked premises started doing the rounds on social media.
Purportedly, the landlord had locked the premises over ?50,000 in unpaid rent. Sharma, however, rubbished these reports, clarifying that the party pays its rent on time through contributions from its members.
He assured that the office has been functioning without interruption and will continue to do so. He also highlighted that, apart from the state office, AAP has a district office at Narela Shankari.
While the party has firmly refuted the allegations, the controversy has added fuel to political chatter, with observers debating whether it was a case of misinformation or an attempt to undermine AAP’s presence in the state.
