Atishi defends AAP’s fiscal record

Saturday, 15 February 2025 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

War of words continued over governance in the national capital post election results between the BJP and the AAP as Outgoing Chief Minister Atishi on Friday said that her government has handed over a fiscally strong and revenue-surplus economy to the incoming BJP government, ensuring there are no financial roadblocks to fulfilling the promises made to Delhi's citizens. Hitting back at Atishi, BJP MP from South Delhi Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that Delhi's treasury has become empty due to the corrupt governance of the AAP.

Addressing a press conference, Atishi said that under AAP's governance, Delhi's budget has grown from Rs 31,000 crore in 2014-15 to Rs 77,000 crore in 2024-25, with the state maintaining a revenue surplus since 2015. She said that the party will cook up a "financial crisis" as an excuse to evade its electoral commitments, particularly the promise of Rs 2,500 per month for every woman in Delhi by 8th March. She alleged that the BJP, instead of prioritizing governance, appears focused on internal power struggles and shifting blame onto AAP to cover up its failures.

She reiterated that the people of Delhi are watching and expect the BJP to uphold its 'Modi Ji Ki Guarantee' without excuses.

Atishi further stated, "During the Delhi elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) made several promises to the people. They distributed a leaflet under 'Modi Ji Ki Guarantee,' with the first promise stating that every woman in Delhi would receive Rs 2,500 per month as financial assistance. BJP repeatedly assured that as soon as their government was formed, this decision would be taken in the first Cabinet meeting, and by 8th March, the first installment of Rs 2,500 would be deposited into the accounts of every woman in Delhi."

Criticising Atishi's comment over the financial health of the capital, BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said that Delhi's treasury has become empty due to the corrupt governance of the AAP.  The national capital has become bankrupt due to faulty policy and corruption in the Kejriwal government. This is the biggest lie of Atishi which she claimed in her press conference today.

"The situation is such that in the last days, the Aam Aadmi Party government had sought a loan of 10 thousand crores from the central government to pay salaries to the employees of the Delhi government," Bidhuri added.

Bidhuri said that Atishi knows that the Aam Aadmi Party government has looted Delhi at every step.  Therefore, she knows that whichever party forms the new government, it will have to face difficulties due to the economic crisis. That is why she herself is admitting that the condition of Delhi's treasury has become such but she should not worry about the promises of BJP. The new BJP government will announce the fulfillment of its major promises in the first cabinet meeting itself and will also arrange funds for it.

He said that Atishi can be compared to a person who has himself looted the treasury of Delhi and then is trying to escape from the spot shouting 'thief-thief'.
