On the occasion of World Malaria Day, observed on April 25, 2025, a special public awareness campaign was launched for protection against malaria. The objective of World Malaria Day is to make people aware about safety and protection against malaria and to change their behaviour for better health.
The theme for this year is ‘Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest, Reimagine, Reiginte.’ The objective of this theme is to raise awareness about the necessary and immediate action in the fight against malaria.
On this occasion, a two- day seminar has been organised in the national capital Delhi from Friday where representatives from various states and malaria- affected districts of those states will be participating.
World Malaria Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the State and public awareness was created through various activities for the prevention and control of malaria. Health workers who did good work for prevention and protection against malaria were encouraged by rewarding them at the district level.
In the rural areas, village meetings were organised, Prabhat Pheri, rallies were taken out while students and health workers took pledges to take precautions and measures to protect themselves from malaria and to inspire others to do the same. In schools, students were made aware through quiz and drawing competitions so that their family members can also be made aware through them.
Apart from this, seminars were organised for inter- departmental cooperation on malaria eradication. Media workshops were also conducted in all districts to seek media's support in this campaign while orientation of Saheya and health workers was conducted. Publicity for malaria prevention was done by publishing messages in newspapers and discussing through various radio channels and television.
Hoardings, banners, flexes, posters were put up at public places in urban and rural areas and awareness was also created through wall writings where people were told that the big threat of malaria can be easily prevented by taking small precautions. If a person notices symptoms of malaria or has fever, they must go to the nearest government hospital, where testing and treatment is free. It is mandatory to take the complete dose of medicines during treatment as caution is the only safety.
The State is making continuous efforts to control malaria, as a result of which 82.68 percent PF patients were found cured in the year 2024 as compared to 85.05 percent malaria PF patients found in the year 2023, who have now been completely treated. Due to malaria, there were two deaths in the year 2023, but there are no deaths in the year 2024. Thus, the number of malaria patients is decreasing every year. With the mortality rate due to malaria at zero, Jharkhand is slowly and steadily moving towards malaria elimination.
