Bhopal’s banker woman ends life in Indore

Friday, 16 May 2025 | PNS | Indore

A 27-year-old bank employee from Bhopal ended her life by slitting her wrist in Indore, allegedly driven by severe financial stress and harassment from loan recovery agents. The victim, Shalu, a sales executive at Axis Bank, was found in a pool of blood in the Silicon City First Block area during the early hours of Thursday.

The grim discovery was made by students Sangam and Somil, who rushed the severely injured woman to Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MY Hospital), where she succumbed during treatment.

Police investigations revealed blood trails from Shalu’s rented first-floor apartment to the campus, along with a suicide note addressed to her parents. Although authorities have not disclosed the note’s full content, preliminary reports suggest that mounting loan pressures and persistent harassment by bank recovery agents may have pushed her toward this tragic decision. Medical reports confirmed sharp object injuries on her wrist, supporting the suicide claim.

The incident has shed light on the aggressive loan recovery tactics that reportedly contributed to the victim’s mental distress. Police are currently analyzing her phone records and awaiting the postmortem report for further clarity.

Witnesses recall hearing Shalu utter the name “Charu” and pleading “Save me, mother” before losing consciousness. The students who found her said they had never seen her around the area before.
