Wednesday, 30 April 2025 | PNS | Jamshedpur

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jamshedpur Branch Office, successfully organized a Jewellers Awareness Programme on the auspicious occasion of Akshay Tritiya on Tuesday, at the Singhbhum Chamber of Commerce, Bistupur. The event drew enthusiastic participation from around 50 jewellers, both registered and non-registered, eager to gain insights into the latest jewellery standards and regulatory updates.

The programme was inaugurated by  Kunal Kumar, Director & Head of BIS Jamshedpur Branch Office, who extended a warm welcome to all participants. He emphasized the role of Indian Standards in ensuring quality and standardization within the jewellery sector and spoke about key standards such as IS 1417, IS 2112, IS 1418, IS 2113, and IS 15820. These standards are critical not only for product quality but also for compliance with regulatory requirements.

Shri Kumar urged jewellers to reaffirm their commitment to delivering quality products, stating that such dedication would naturally boost customer confidence and business growth. He also detailed the latest updates on the mandatory hallmarking scheme, which now covers 361 districts across India. Other important topics included the online registration process for jewellers, the list of required documents, and procedural guidance for smooth compliance.

The session was highly interactive, with jewellers actively engaging in discussions, seeking clarifications, and sharing feedback on the hallmarking and certification process. The BIS team highlighted the importance of adherence to standards to ensure consumer safety, product authenticity, and long-term trust in the industry.

In closing, Kumar extended best wishes to all participants for a prosperous Akshay Tritiya and reiterated BIS’s continued commitment to supporting jewellers through such awareness initiatives.
