Olympian Manu Bhaker's grandmother, uncle die in road accident
Charkhi Dadri: In a tragic road accident, Paris Olympic medallist shooter Manu Bhaker's maternal grandmother and maternal uncle died in Charkhi Dadri on Sunday. The two-wheeler, on which Bhaker's relatives were travelling, collided with a car. The accident occurred at around 9 am on Mahendragarh bypass road in Charkhi Dadri area when a car hit their scooty. The car driver fled the scene after the accident, and the two died on the spot. ASI Suresh Kumar said that the victims have been identified as Savitri Devi (70) and Yudhveer (50), who worked as a driver in Haryana roadways.
SAD reschedules meeting of its SGPC members
Chandigarh: SAD has rescheduled the meeting of its SGPC members with regard to large scale registration of bogus votes in SGPC voter lists. Earlier scheduled for January 21, the meeting would now be held on January 22 at 12 noon at the party headquarters. Senior party leader Daljit Singh Cheema said that since the last date for filing objections with returning officers was January 23, SAD had appealed to all its leaders and party workers to first file all the objections in writing vis-a-vis registration of non-Sikhs and other bogus votes with the concerned returning officers well in time. “The party would collect all details from its members in the meeting on January 22 and then take up the entire issue with the Chief Commissioner of Gurdwara elections,” said Cheema, adding that meeting of SAD’s Parliamentary Board would be held as per schedule on Monday at 1 pm; and “the membership drive will also start tomorrow”.
Cold weather persists in Punjab, Haryana; fog enveloped many places
Chandigarh: Punjab and Haryana continued to reel under cold weather on Sunday with fog enveloping many places in both states. Amritsar was the coldest place with a low of 4.8 °C, followed by 6.6 °C in Bathinda, the meteorological department said. In Punjab, Ludhiana’s minimum temperature was 8.4 °C, two degrees above normal, according to a meteorological department report. Patiala recorded a minimum of 9.4 °C, two degrees above normal, it said. Pathankot logged a low of 7.4 °C, followed by 7.3 °C in Gurdaspur and 6.8 °C in Faridkot. Union Territory Chandigarh, the common capital of both states, recorded a low of 8.9 °C, one degree above normal, the weather officer said. In neighbouring Haryana, Ambala’s minimum temperature was 10.4 °C, followed by 10.2 °C in Faridabad. Narnaul registered a low of 9.5 °C, followed by 9 °C in Hisar, 8.6 °C in Sirsa, it added.
Badoli should resign as Hry BJP chief to maintain party’s sanctity: Anil Vij
Ambala: Mohan Lal Badoli, who has been booked in a gang-rape case, should resign from the post of Haryana BJP chief to maintain “sanctity of the party” till he is proven innocent, senior party leader and Cabinet Minister Anil Vij said on Sunday. “Until the Himachal Pradesh Police clears him of charges or concludes the investigation, he should resign from his position to uphold the sanctity of the party,” said Vij. Badoli, along with Haryanvi singer Rocky Mittal, is facing charges of raping a Delhi woman in a hotel in Kasauli, Himachal Pradesh, back in 2023. Vij called for the BJP state president’s resignation days after he called the charges against Badoli “very serious”. Vij expressed confidence that the police investigation will prove Badoli’s innocence. He added that while Badoli claimed innocence, a witness has also declared his innocence.
