MC Commissioner launches mission “Stray Cattle-Free Chandigarh
Chandigarh: Taking serious note of the increasing issue of stray cattle on city roads, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Amit Kumar on Thursday launched an aggressive campaign under the mission “Stray Cattle-Free Chandigarh.” Under this mission, the Commissioner directed the officers concerned to intensify cattle-catching operations across all sectors, with a special emphasis on the areas near villages and urban colonies. The commissioner said that stray cattle will not be tolerated on city roads beyond the next three months. He has issued strict instructions to all concerned officials dealing with the cattle catching unit to ensure continuous and effective drives to remove stray animals from public areas. In a firm message to violators, the Commissioner stated that any cattle caught by the MCC will not be released under any condition, and legal action will be initiated as per law against those responsible for letting their animals roam freely in the city. He said, “Stray cattle pose a serious threat to traffic, public safety, and the overall discipline of the city.
State-Level Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti to be celebrated in Rohtak
Chandigarh: Haryana Cooperation Minister Arvind Sharma on Thursday said that the state-level celebration of Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti will be held on May 17 in Pahrawar, Rohtak, under the Sant Mahapurush Vichar Samman evam Prasar Yojana implemented by the state government. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will attend the event as the Chief Guest. Representatives from the Brahmin community and all other communities across the state will participate in this celebration.
No gazetted holiday for Akshay Tritiya on April 30 in Haryana
Chandigarh: There will be no gazetted holiday for Akshay Tritiya on April 30 in Haryana, a government statement said on Thursday. An order issued by the Human Resources Department stated that in partial modification of the government notification issued on December 26, 2024, it is notified that the Gazetted holiday declared for Akshay Tritiya stands withdrawn because the same was written inadvertently.
RBI holds financial awareness session
Chandigarh: To sensitize urban youth, particularly regarding digital financial frauds, the Office of Reserve Bank Integrated Ombudsman, Chandigarh on Thursday organised a financial awareness session for the students of Rayat-Bahra University. The event was primarily addressed by Rajeev Dwivedi, Reserve Bank Ombudsman, Chandigarh and Amit Sharma, Zonal Operation Head, IndusInd Bank, where faculty members of the University also participated. In the session, the participants were sensitized about do’s and don’ts of digital banking. The participants were requested not to share OTPs, account / card details, PIN, internet banking passwords, etc. The participants’ attention was specifically invited to ‘sancharsathi’ website (https://www.sancharsathi.gov.in) launched by Government of India, as a facility for citizens to report details of suspicious calls / phishing links. It was urged that only official apps, websites and call centre numbers of the service providers should be used and messages received on mobiles or emails like updation of KYC details, disconnection of electricity bill, blocking of sim cards, redemption of reward points in credit cards, investment offers, job offers through Telegram, etc. whether by downloading any link or otherwise should be handled with extreme care. Similarly, it was urged that any message seeking remittance of funds to overseas relatives should be acted upon only after due confirmation.
230 BLAs Appointed in Punjab:CEO
Chandigarh: The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, has informed that a total of 230 Booth Level Agents-1 (BLA-1) have been appointed so far across the state, as a step towards ensuring transparency and preparedness for the upcoming elections. Booth Level Agents play a crucial role in the electoral process as they serve as the direct link between political parties and the booth-level electoral machinery, assisting in the verification of electoral rolls, raising objections if required, and ensuring that the polling process is conducted fairly and efficiently. Appealing to political parties, Punjab Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C, said, “We urge all political parties to expedite the appointment of Booth Level Agents. Their active participation is essential for ensuring the integrity of the electoral rolls and the overall fairness of the election process. A well-informed and present BLA strengthens the very foundation of democracy.” The appointment of BLA-1 is made at the District level, and it is mandatory for every recognized political party through its President or Secretary or any other office bearer of shall authorize one district representative to appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs). Each BLA-1 is also responsible for appointing BLA-2 at the Booth level, further enhancing grassroots-level oversight and coordination.
