BSP fighting Delhi polls on own strength: Maya

Wednesday, 08 January 2025 | PNS | Lucknow

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday said that instead of being swayed by tempting promises, people should use their vote wisely and choose only the candidates of her party, who are dedicated to public interest and welfare.

The BSP supremo wrote on social media, “The general election for the Delhi Assembly will be held in one phase on 5 February 2025. The announcement made by the Election Commission in this regard is welcome. BSP is fighting this election on its own strength, with full preparation and confidence. It is expected that the party will perform better in this election.”

Mayawati further wrote in her post, “Elections are the backbone of democracy, and BSP, a party of the poor and the oppressed, which stays away from muscle power and money power, expects that the Commission will ensure free and fair elections by protecting them from being contaminated by the misuse of government machinery, as well as communalism and other divisive propaganda.”

The former UP chief minister wrote on social media, “I appeal to the voters not to be swayed by any party’s tempting promises, but to use their votes wisely and vote only for the candidates of the BSP, dedicated to public interest and welfare. This is my appeal. Public and national interest are safe only with us.”

There are 70 assembly seats in Delhi, out of which 58 are of the general category, while 12 seats are reserved for Scheduled Castes. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said in a press conference that there are a total of 1.55 crore registered voters in Delhi, of whom 83.49 lakh are men and 71.74 lakh are women.

He added that the number of young voters (aged 20 to 21 years) is 28.89 lakh, with 2.08 lakh youth eligible to vote for the first time. There will be a total of 13,033 polling stations at 2,697 locations in the capital, with 210 of these being model polling stations. 36 MLAs are required for a majority in the Delhi assembly. Polling in Delhi will take place on February 5 and results will be declared on February 8.
