Marking the 11th International Day of Yoga, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) brought together thousands of yoga enthusiasts across the city on Saturday. From lush parks to iconic public spaces, Delhi turned into a large yoga ground, reflecting this year’s theme — “Yoga for One Earth, One Healthâ€.
The DDA organised yoga sessions at 39 locations across Delhi, witnessing participation from over 35,000 people at its parks and sports complexes. The main event was held at Baansera, a 37-acre bamboo-themed park developed under the supervision of Lieutenant Governor and DDA Chairman Vinai Kumar Saxena. Over 2,000 people performed yoga at the site, joining the live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address from Visakhapatnam as part of the ‘Yoga Sangam’ program.
Saxena was joined by DDA Vice Chairman N Saravana Kumar, personnel from paramilitary forces like CRPF, BSF, CISF, Delhi Police, Malaysian delegates under the Yoga Bandhan program and senior DDA officials. The sessions included various asanas, guided meditation and breathing exercises conducted by trained instructors, aimed at promoting physical and mental well-being.
Yoga sessions were simultaneously held at major DDA sports facilities including Siri Fort, Saket, Vasant Kunj, Hari Nagar and Yamuna Sports Complex. A special inclusive session for differently-abled children was also held at Yamuna Sports Complex. Additionally, public parks like Swarn Jayanti Park, Hauz Khas Park, and Smriti Park, among others, also saw large turnout of residents of all ages.
NDMC, in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH, Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, and seven yoga institutions, organised yoga sessions at eight key locations.
