While the cleanliness and beautification efforts in the city are commendable, the civic administration appears to have overlooked certain areas that require urgent attention.
At the edge of VIP Road, the main thoroughfare for guests visiting the city for the Global Investors Summit later this month, the 19th-century Gauhar Mahal is in dire need of a fresh coat of paint, both inside and outside.
Though the outer walls of this historical building, which could easily become one of the focal points of attraction for visitors, are currently being painted to hide water streaks that have accumulated and darkened over time, plans to paint the inside of the structure remain uncertain.
Furthermore, there is at least one gap (possibly a missing window) that exposes an unsightly view of its interior to those passing through the area.
Apart from a comprehensive facelift for Gauhar Mahal, the beautification and enhancement plan has failed to include resurfacing the flyover leading to the collector's office. While the majority of guests and dignitaries will take VIP Road to reach the airport, preparing an alternative route could prove beneficial.
In addition, more effective management of civic amenities and parking facilities in key shopping districts, such as New Market, 10 Number Stop, MP Nagar, and Chowk Bazaar, would be advantageous, as some visitors may take time to purchase souvenirs and other items during their stay.
Improving the general upkeep of city landmarks would also contribute significantly to ensuring a positive experience for visitors, as the quality of hospitality provided by the city will be a critical factor when they consider potential investment opportunities in Bhopal.
Beyond the civic efforts led by the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), the city administration could also enhance citizen engagement during the Summit, as meaningful human interactions could play a vital role in ensuring the success of the event.
The two-day Global Investors Summit is scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 24. The event is expected to attract tens of thousands of guests with the financial capacity to alter the economic destiny of the city.
With so many aspirations riding on the conclave, a more detailed city enhancement plan becomes an imperative that the civic administration can no longer overlook.
