In a shocking incident that has rocked the town of Jaura, a 19-year-old Class 11 student, Malishka Kadera, was brutally shot dead by unidentified assailants late on Monday night, June 16, in what appears to be a revenge killing tied to a long-standing land dispute.
The attack occurred around 9:30 PM at Badarpura intersection as Malishka was returning home on a motorcycle with her parents after visiting relatives in Balera village. According to police and eyewitness accounts, four assailants intercepted the family mid-route. Upon recognizing one of the attackers, Malishka was shot three times in the head with a country-made pistol, dying instantly.
Sirnam Singh, Malishka’s grandfather, alleged that the murder stemmed from an eight-year-old land dispute involving six bighas of farmland bought from a man named Bhikam for Rs 6 lakh. Singh claims that Bhikam’s son, along with his associates Saurabh and Gaurav, had been disputing the land’s registration and had issued threats in the past. The family believes the attack was a targeted act of vengeance.
Adding to the family’s anguish, they accused police of delayed response, stating that Malishka’s body lay unattended on the road for an extended period despite repeated calls for help. The Baghchini Police Station in-charge, TI Dimple Maurya, confirmed the incident and said a murder case has been registered. A police team has been formed to track down and arrest the culprits.
Malishka, a student at Karaira School in Chinoni, was the eldest of three sisters. Her body was sent for post-mortem on Tuesday morning, and her tragic death has plunged the family and the local community into mourning.
The gruesome murder has sparked widespread outrage in the region, with residents demanding swift justice and heightened security in light of the increasing number of violent land disputes in rural Madhya Pradesh.
Authorities have assured that no leniency will be shown to the perpetrators and that a thorough investigation is underway.
