Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday said clean parks will be constructed for the children residing in slums and swings will also be provided. She also directed the Delhi Police to take strict action while expressing concern over the increasing problem of drug addiction in slums.
The Chief Minister gave these directives during her visit to G and JU Block Pitampura, CA Block Seva Basti and U and V Block Shalimar Bagh Assembly Constituency. She also inspected various development projects and also inaugurated several new projects, her office said. The Chief Minister reviewed important works like laying pipelines and construction of new roads.
She reiterated that the Delhi Government is determined to provide water, roads, toilets, parks and all other basic facilities to every citizen living in slums, so that no citizen is left behind in the race of development.
The Chief Minister, while expressing grief over the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, stated that, today not only the people of Delhi but the entire nation are overwhelmed with deep sorrow and anguish. She observed that a sense of distress and unease prevails among all. In such an atmosphere, there is neither the inclination to celebrate nor the enthusiasm to conduct any formal inaugurations.
While inspections of the development works were carried out and several initiatives were commenced, the prevailing sentiment remains one of mourning; hence, no form of welcome or ceremonial event has been organised. In this connection, on Saturday many new development works were inspected in G and JU Block of Pitampura, CA Block Seva Basti and U and V Block of Shalimar Bagh Assembly
constituency.
Especially to solve the problem of water, which has been a serious challenge for the slums of Delhi, the work of laying and expansion of pipelines has been started, which will benefit many blocks and clean drinking water will reach the slums.
New road construction work was started in U and V Block, which will help in improving traffic ease and standard of living in the area. The Chief Minister said all these works are being done with the aim of fulfilling the long-standing needs of the public.
The Government’s effort is that Delhi should move forward on the path of continuous development and basic facilities should reach every citizen on time. Instructions were issued to the officials concerned to construct all the streets within the colony in an aesthetically pleasing manner and to elevate the central park to prevent the accumulation of rainwater, thereby creating a safe and well-maintained space for children to play.
The Chief Minister, instructing the officials concerned, said that all the works should be completed within the time limit and quality and transparency should be ensured in the works.
She engaged in a discussion with the women of the slum area and attentively listened to their concerns. During the interaction, the women voiced their apprehensions regarding the rising instances of drug addiction within their locality.
Taking immediate cognizance of the issue, the Chief Minister issued strict directives to the Delhi Police and the concerned officials to take decisive action to completely eradicate both the drug trade and its consumption.
