CM inaugurates multi-level, shuttle-type parking

In a major relief from parking problem in Greater Kailash, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Saturday inaugurated an automated multi-level shuttle-type parking facility at M-block Market and said her government plans to install around 100 such automated systems across the city to provide a “permanent solution” to the national Capital’s parking issues.

The inauguration event was attended by several dignitaries, including Delhi Cabinet Minister Ashish Sood, MP Bansuri Swaraj, Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and MLA Shikha Rai. It was a state-of-the-art facility that will provide a permanent solution to the parking woes, the Chief Minister said in a post in hindi. The parking facility gives people a safe and organised parking option, she said.

On this occasion, the chief minister inspected the automated shuttle parking facility, where she was briefed on the car parking operations. The multi-level shuttle parking facility located in M Block Market, Greater Kailash 1, is built on an area of 2245 square meters and has a capacity of 399 cars. This parking lot is fully automated, requiring no human intervention for parking and unloading. Entry and exit to the parking lot is from the ground floor.

This parking lot includes a basement, ground floor, and a seven-story building, with a parking capacity of 57 cars per level. The total cost of this project, including 10-year operation and maintenance, is `63.74 crore. The project includes an underground water tank with a capacity of 1.5 lakh liters and special provisions for fire fighting. The facility was developed by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and was inaugurated as part of a ‘Seva Pakhwada’ that was observed to mark the birthday of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Delhi CM said.

“This automated parking system, which has been under construction for several years, is being dedicated to the people of Delhi today. This automated parking system will reduce traffic congestion and provide safe and organised parking to citizens, making the capital’s traffic smoother and more convenient,” she said. The Chief Minister further said, “Parking is a major issue in Delhi. It causes traffic jams and road chaos. Disputes often arise among people. Our Government is making every effort to address Delhi’s parking problem. We believe that parking facilities should be provided wherever technology is available.”

The Chief Minister assured MLAs, councillors, and market associations that there would never be a shortage of funds for public amenities and development works. The Chief Minister said shuttle service and puzzle parking systems would address long-standing parking issues in Delhi. The Chief Minister urged the market association and local residents to utilise solar panels. Speaking on the

occasion, Delhi’s Urban Development Minister Ashish Sood expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and said that previous Governments had no interest in completing this project, which began in 2022. According to officials, five car lifts have been installed for entry and exit to the Greater Kailash parking lot located in M Block.

The Delhi Fire Service has given in-principle approval for the parking facility. The exterior of the parking complex will be used to generate revenue from advertising, with 30 percent going to the agency and 70 per cent going to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The basement has been constructed to house an underground water tank, pump room, and services. Parking space is available for 114 SUVs and 285 sedans. The structure is 32.50 meters high.
