Delhi-bound flight diverted to Bhopal amid heavy rains

Wednesday, 18 June 2025 | PNS | Bhopal

A Delhi-bound flight from Jodhpur was diverted to Bhopal on Tuesday afternoon due to heavy rainfall in the national capital. The aircraft landed safely at Raja Bhoj Airport around 4:50 PM. Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was among the passengers on board.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon continued its advance across Madhya Pradesh, covering 19 districts as of Tuesday, including Indore. This marks a significant progression from Monday, when the monsoon had entered only four districts. The state witnessed widespread showers accompanied by thunderstorms, bringing much-needed relief from the scorching summer heat.

Two lightning-related fatalities were reported from Singrauli district, highlighting the hazards accompanying the monsoon onset. Several districts, including Bhopal, Rajgarh, Dhar, Ratlam, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Mandla, Satna, and Tikamgarh, recorded substantial rainfall.

The rainfall led to a noticeable dip in temperatures statewide. Shivpuri reported the highest temperature at 40°C, while Pachmarhi remained the coolest at 28.2°C. Temperatures in major urban centers also fell, with Bhopal recording 34.4°C, Indore 32.2°C, Gwalior 38.5°C, Ujjain 33°C, and Jabalpur 34.5°C.
