A large herd of elephants is moving steadily towards Madhya Pradesh through Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Forest officials have issued alerts across multiple districts to prevent potential human-wildlife conflict.
Teams in Jabalpur, Katni, Dindori and surrounding areas of the Vindhya-Mahakaushal region have been placed on high alert. The herd’s movement is being closely monitored by Bandhavgarh National Park staff and forest departments in neighbouring districts.
Officials believe the elephants are travelling along a well-documented migratory corridor towards Kanha Kisli. While the route is natural and expected, there is concern that stray individuals may enter residential zones.
Forest personnel in Bandhavgarh have tracked the herd over the past few days. Their progress appears steady, but surveillance continues to ensure no animals move into populated areas, especially near villages and towns.
Wildlife experts say elephant migration is part of a natural cycle. The department was informed in advance about the herd and is coordinating efforts to keep the situation under control.
Villagers near forested areas have been advised to stay alert and report any elephant sightings immediately. Forest teams have conducted awareness drives to ensure communities understand how to respond safely.
Surveillance has been strengthened across Umaria, Katni, Dindori, Mandla and Jabalpur. Monitoring teams are patrolling known corridors and buffer areas, with communication channels kept open for rapid response.
