Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav has stated that through micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), it is possible to provide employment or self-employment opportunities to at least one member of every family. Activities should be expanded based on the specific conditions and available skills of each district.
Dr. Yadav emphasised that entrepreneurship should expand uniformly across the state by connecting youth with micro-industries like traditional oil mills, spice and flour mills, and millet processing units for crops like kodo and kutki. Food processing units can play a crucial role in this initiative. Agricultural produce markets are also being modernised, with facilities for the safe storage of milk, vegetables, and other perishables, starting from Ratlam.
These directives were given by Chief Minister Dr. Yadav during a review meeting of the Department of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises held at Samatva Bhavan (Chief Minister’s Residence). The meeting was attended by Minister Chaitanya Kumar Kashyap, Principal Secretary Raghvendra Singh, Principal Secretary Finance Manish Rastogi, and other officials.
Dr. Yadav said that MSMEs play a key role in realising the vision of a Developed India–Developed Madhya Pradesh. Promoting entrepreneurship at the micro level is especially crucial. Currently, Madhya Pradesh ranks 7th in the country in the MSME sector, and the aim is to bring it among the top states by next year. To achieve this goal, a time-bound action plan will be implemented focusing on Better financial and infrastructural support for MSMEs, strengthening self-employment schemes and the startup ecosystem, and promoting marketing, exports & e-commerce platforms.
Dr. Yadav announced that 2025 is being observed as the "Year of Industry and Employment" in Madhya Pradesh. Industry-Employment Days will be organised in various regions of the state every two months. It is essential to sustain traditional production activities like power looms. Regional camps will be organised for skill upgradation and improving technical competencies with the help of experts.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of encouraging new entrepreneurs. Successful entrepreneurs who have excelled through their own initiatives and innovations should be showcased as role models to inspire others.
Dr. Yadav congratulated the Madhya Pradesh Small Industries Corporation for winning the Gold Medal at the India International Trade Fair held in New Delhi. He also said that Vikramotsav in Ujjain has significantly boosted trade and business at the regional level.
He instructed that a study be conducted in areas where trade fairs can be organised, and an integrated plan should be made to implement these activities.
The key discussions in the Meeting were that Madhya Pradesh has 17.55 lakh registered MSME units, attracting investments worth Rs 55,000 crore, providing employment to over 92 lakh people. There are 5,300 startups in the state, with over 2,500 led by women. An amount of Rs 1,475 crore from the supplementary budget has been used to clear all pending MSME subsidies till March 2025. Gwalior Trade Fair 2025 witnessed Rs 3,327 crore worth of business.
To inform investors about land availability, information is being provided through the department’s website, with 1,100+ plots available for allocation from May 1. District-level workshops are being held to educate investors about government policies. The Mukhyamantri Udyam Kranti Yojana and Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme have both exceeded their targets. A grand event focused on MSMEs will be held in Indore on June 27 to mark MSME Day. A similar startup-focused event will be organised in Bhopal in September.
