New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chairman Keshav Chandra on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the construction of a subway for the Gole Market Museum at Bhai Veer Singh Marg, a roundabout under the Sewa Pakhwada.
On this occasion, he also launched an initiative for the timely issuance of birth certificates before discharging mothers from the hospital.
After the ground-breaking ceremony for the construction of a subway at Gole Market Museum, the chairman informed that NDMC is redeveloping the existing Gole Market Building into a museum of national importance. A subway shall be constructed to the museum for safe and convenient passage and modern access for citizens, visitors, students and tourists etc.
The subway shall be equipped with lifts for specially abled persons at entry and exit points.
The construction cost of the subway shall be around Rs 1.90 Crores and it shall be completed within 04 months. The subway shall be of the length 40 metres, height approx 3 metres and width 3.5 metres. The total project cost of the Gole Market museum Building including subway is Rs 21.67 crores. The whole project shall be completed in February 2026, he added.
Taking a landmark step towards seamless public service delivery, the NDMC, in collaboration with Atal Bihari Institute of Medical Sciences and Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital launched a programme ensuring birth certificates are issued to parents before the mother’s discharge.
Following a circular issued by the Office of Registrar General of India, the initiative is integrating birth registration with hospital discharge procedures, simplifying formalities, and enhancing convenience for families.
An awareness programme on issuance of birth certificates before discharge of mother was organised at RML Hospital, graced by Chandra, along with the Director of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences Dr. (Prof.) Ashok Kumar.
Additional MS of RML Hospital, Chief Registrar (Birth & Death), Additional Chief Registrar (Birth & Death), Registrar (Birth & Death), and Senior Officers of NDMC.
On the occasion, Chairman NDMC said by providing parents with birth certificates before discharge of mother from the hospital, the initiative shall reduce paperwork, streamlining procedures, and enhancing citizen-friendly service delivery. By implementing the government directive efficiently, NDMC and its partner institutions are demonstrating a commitment to citizen-friendly governance and timely service delivery, making the process smooth, transparent and entirely integrated with hospital discharge formalities, he added.
