Delhi Police on Sunday detained four Bangladeshi nationals found allegedly residing unlawfully in the national capital.
The deportation process has been promptly initiated with the assistance of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), police said.
The staff of the Vasant Vihar police station, South West district has completed the operation.
The detained individuals have been identified as Asadul (30), Arif (19), Asia Begum (47) and Zuhur Ali (80), all originally residents of village Phoolwadi, district Kudigram in Bangladesh.
The action was carried out by a specially assigned police team comprising constables Hitesh, Anurag, Subhash and woman constable Mithlesh, under the leadership of the Station House Officer (SHO) of Vasant Vihar police station.
The team was tasked with strengthening patrols and monitoring suspected illegal migrants in the area as part of the district’s ongoing efforts to maintain law and order.
During routine patrolling, the team noticed three men and one woman behaving suspiciously.
When approached by the police, the group attempted to flee but was successfully apprehended.
Upon interrogation, they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals living in India without legal documents, police informed.
Identity papers confirming their Bangladeshi origin were recovered from Asia Begum and Zuhur Ali.
None of the four had valid visas or permits to stay in India, said police.
They were taken to Safdarjung Hospital for a medical check-up and were found fit for further legal processing.
Following the due legal procedure, and in coordination with FRRO and the Bangladeshi Cell, all four individuals were transferred to the Detention Centre at Inderlok, New Delhi.
They will remain there while the deportation process continues, said DCP South West Surendra Chaudhary.
