Punjab Police’s Anti-Gangster Task Force (AGTF) arrested notorious gangster Malkit Singh alias Manu after a brief encounter in Moga city. Manu, an active operative of the Davinder Bambiha gang, was apprehended in a joint operation by AGTF and Moga Police, said the state Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Wednesday.
The heavily armed gangster, who was wanted in multiple cases of murder, attempt to murder, and arms-related offences, opened fire at the police team in an attempt to escape. However, the police swiftly retaliated, leading to Manu sustaining bullet injuries. He was immediately taken into custody and shifted to Baba Farid Medical College in Faridkot for treatment.
Manu, a resident of Dosanjh Talwandi in Moga, has been linked to at least seven criminal cases under various charges, including the NDPS Act and the Arms Act. He was closely associated with foreign-based gangsters Gaurav alias Lucky Patyal and Davinderpal Singh alias Gopi Lahoria.
DGP Yadav said that Manu had played a key role in the February 19, 2025, murder in Kapura village (Moga), where he and his accomplice Manpreet Singh alias Mani shot a rival, killing one person and injuring a woman. He was also involved in the February 26 firing at Raja Dhaba in Jagraon, which was orchestrated by gangster Lucky Patyal.
Revealing details of the operation, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban said that based on human and technical intelligence, police teams tracked Manu to a rented house near Dosanjh Road in Moga. When law enforcement officials raided the location, Manu opened fire in an attempt to flee. Police responded with controlled retaliation, eventually subduing and arresting him. Police recovered one .32 caliber pistol and four cartridges from his possession.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Manu had been tasked with carrying out a major crime in the Tricity area by foreign-based handlers Patyal and Lahoria. The arrest, officials say, has foiled an imminent act of violence.
Moga SSP Ajay Gandhi confirmed that a new FIR No. 52 dated March 12, 2025, has been lodged at Police Station City Moga under sections 109, 132, 221, and 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with sections 25(6) and 25(7) of the Arms Act. The police are now investigating Manu’s network and his connections with other criminal elements to dismantle further gang-related activities in Punjab.
