Government appeals city residents to inform police about Pakistani nationals

Sunday, 27 April 2025 | Pioneer News Service | New Delhi

The Delhi Government in the wake of the Central government’s decision to suspend visa services to Pakistani nationals, on Saturday, appealed to all citizens to help nationals from the neighbouring country overstaying in the national capital and immediately inform the nearest police station.

“No new visas will be issued to Pakistani nationals henceforward,” Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). She added, “Delhi Government is ensuring strict compliance with these orders. Every violation is being sincerely tracked, and necessary action will follow.”

Making this appeal, Delhi Home Minister Ashish also said the state government unequivocally shares the security concerns resulting from the illegal overstay of Pakistani nationals in Delhi.

The Home Department of GNCTD, in consonance with the decisions of the Government of India, had already advised Delhi Police to identify all Pakistani nationals who are illegally overstaying in Delhi and coordinate with other agencies concerned for their deportation. A press note was also released by the Home Department of GNCTD.

Sood appealed to all residents of Delhi to cooperate with the law enforcing authorities in this important national duty of identifying all those

Pakistani nationals who are illegally overstaying in Delhi.

He also appealed to all residents of Delhi to pass on any relevant information about any suspected Pakistani nationals illegally overstaying in Delhi, as and when they come across, to the nearest police station without any delay.

An order issued by the home ministry’s foreigners division — as part of harsh diplomatic measures unveiled by India since Pakistani linkages emerged in the Pahalgam attack — states that no new visas shall be issued to Pakistani citizens across 14 categories — namely, Saarc visa, visa on arrival, business visa, film visa, journalist visa, transit visa, medical visa, conference visa, mountaineering visa, student visa, visitor visa, group tourist visa, pilgrim visa and group pilgrim visa issued to minorities of Pakistan. The order states that all Pakistani visitors to India admitted in 12 visa categories — visa on arrival, business visa film visa, journalist visa, transit visa, medical visa, conference visa, mountaineering visa, student visa, visitor visa, group tourist visa, pilgrim visa and group pilgrim visa issued to minorities of Pakistan — must exit India by April 27; Saarc visa holders by Saturday; and medical visa holders by April 29.

Diplomatic and official visas will, however, remain valid, with any deadline to exit India to be decided by the ministry of external affairs. Long-term visas issued to Pakistani citizens will also remain valid. There shall also be no restriction on the issue of new diplomatic and official visas or long term visas.

The Delhi government said that it is enforcing the Centre’s order, which revokes all existing visas issued to Pakistani citizens -- except for medical, diplomatic, and long-term visas -- with immediate effect.

“All existing valid visas, except Medical visas, Long Term Visas, Diplomatic & Official visas, issued by Government of India to Pak Nationals stands revoked with immediate effect from April 27, 2025,” the Home Department, Government of NCT of Delhi, said in a release on Friday. The existing medical visas will also become invalid after April 29, and no new visas will be issued, it added.

Deadlines from 26.04.2025 to 29.04.2025 to exit India have also been prescribed for Pakistani nationals in this regard and henceforth no new visas would be issued to Pakistani nationals

As part of the countermeasures following the Pahalgam terror attack, the central government has taken a series of strong actions against the Pakistani government. These include the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty and closure of the integrated check post at Attari border.
