Jail security review meeting: 4G and 5G jammers to come up

Wednesday, 12 March 2025 | PNS | Jamshedpur

Security enhancements were a major focus of the jail review meeting at the district headquarters, with instructions to install 4G and 5G jammers to prevent unauthorized communication within the prison premises. Further, authorities were directed to provide walkie-talkies as per requirement, deploy adequate security personnel in watchtowers, enhance police patrolling, and improve lighting arrangements to bolster overall security.

The meeting, held at the Collectorate Auditorium in Jamshedpur, was convened as per the directives of District Magistrate cum Deputy Commissioner  Ananya Mittal and chaired by ADM Law and Order  Aniket Sachan. The security measures and infrastructural needs of Ghaghidih Central Jail, Sakchi Divisional Jail, and Ghatshila Sub-Jail were reviewed, with a special focus on strengthening surveillance and inmate management.

During the discussions, officials assessed the condition of essential facilities, including prison cells, hospitals, and watchtowers, as well as the availability of drinking water. The need for repairs and renovation was emphasized to ensure the well-being of inmates. Additionally, plans were discussed to establish a dedicated court lockup at the Railway Court in Jamshedpur for improved prisoner management during legal proceedings.

Considering the summer season, directives were issued to ensure sufficient drinking water arrangements in all jails. Proposals were also made to introduce vocational training programs to help rehabilitate inmates and equip them with skills for reintegration into society.

To maintain law and order, the administration and police officials were instructed to conduct surprise inspections and raids at all jails, sub-jails, juvenile homes, hospital prison wards, and court lock-ups. Strengthening the intelligence system was also emphasized to facilitate effective monitoring and swift action against any potential threats.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including SDO Dhalbhum  Shatabdi Majumdar, SDM Ghatshila  Sunil Chandra, DSP, Jail Superintendent, and other key departmental representatives. The session concluded with a commitment to reinforcing prison security, upgrading infrastructure, and implementing measures for inmate welfare.
