Kashyap’s alleged derogatory remark sparks outrage

Sunday, 20 April 2025 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has sparked widespread controversy following an alleged derogatory statement targeting the Brahmin community, which has ignited a wave of anger and protests across Madhya Pradesh and beyond. The remark, reportedly posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), read, “I will urinate on Brahmins... what will the Brahmins do?”

The comment has been widely condemned as deeply offensive and inflammatory, drawing sharp criticism from the All India Brahmin Society, which has vowed not to tolerate such remarks against the community. Pushpendra Mishra, State President of the Society’s Madhya Pradesh unit, strongly denounced the filmmaker’s comment, calling it an unacceptable insult to Brahmins.

In a symbolic protest on Friday afternoon, members of the Brahmin community placed a photo of Anurag Kashyap in a public urinal near Manohar Dairy in Bhopal and urinated on it in a gesture of defiance. Mishra stated that similar acts of protest are being carried out at various public toilets across the state, where Kashyap’s images are being displayed with an appeal to community members to register their anger in the same manner.

Mishra further announced that the Brahmin Society would pursue both legal and public actions against the filmmaker. He said that a delegation would soon meet the Bhopal Police Commissioner to demand the registration of an FIR against Anurag Kashyap under charges of inciting communal disharmony and insulting a religious community.

Warning of escalated protests if authorities fail to act, Mishra said the organization would consider launching a “Chakka Jam” (road blockade) across multiple locations in Madhya Pradesh, which could disrupt public movement. He emphasized that the community would not rest until accountability is ensured and respect restored.

The controversy continues to escalate, with growing calls for action against the filmmaker, and the matter remains a flashpoint of communal sensitivity and freedom of expression.
