Kejriwal playing ‘politics of deceit and lies’: Shah

Sunday, 26 January 2025 | Staff Reporter | New Delhi

Hitting the campaign trail in Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of playing "politics of deceit and lies", and exhorted people to vote for the BJP for the development of the city.  Shah also accused the AAP government of sheltering Bangladeshi and Rohingyas and vowed to free Delhi from illegal immigrants if voted to power.

Addressing his public meeting in Rajouri Garden, Shah also slammed the AAP for allegedly misleading people by claiming the BJP will discontinue all existing welfare schemes in Delhi if voted to power.

"PM Modi has himself assured that no existing welfare scheme for the poor in Delhi will be discontinued but Arvind Kejriwal is spreading lies... They are misleading people. I am saying it again again the BJP will not stop any scheme meant for the welfare of the poor," he told the rally in Rajouri Garden.

Shah alleged the AAP government did nothing in the 10 years of its power apart from betraying the people of Delhi.

"Arvind Kejriwal promised a corruption-free Delhi but committed liquor scam worth crores of rupees," he alleged.

Shah reiterated the BJP's poll promises and appealed to people to vote for the party and strengthen Prime Minister Narendra Modi's hands to end the "politics of deceit and lies".

"We have to make Delhi garbage-free, remove 'aapda' (disaster -- referring to AAP) and ensure potable water supply. To make Delhi the number one capital in the world, make Modi ji win," he appealed to people.

"He [Kejriwal] promised he would purify River Yamuna in seven years and modify it just like London's River Thames," Shah said."He even said he would take a dip in the Yamuna in front of Delhiites. Arvind Kejriwal, the people of Delhi are waiting for your world-famous dip in the Yamuna. If not in Yamuna, he can go to the Mahakumbh and take a dip over there to get rid of his sins," Shah said. Pressing on his attack, Shah said the BJP would clean River Yamuna in three years if it comes to power in the national capital.

Shah alleged the AAP chief also broke his promise of not taking a government bungalow, and accused him of spending Rs 52 crore to build a 50,000 square-foot "Sheesh Mahal"

“. ... Kejriwal runs a government in Delhi that makes promises, doesn't fulfil them, and then presents false faces to the public. In my political life, I have never seen anyone who lies so clearly," Shah said.

Shah drew the public's attention to the alleged liquor scam worth thousands of crores of rupees, saying, "Education Minister of Delhi went to jail in the liquor scam, the Chief Minister also went to jail in the liquor scam."  "Similarly, a ration card scam of Rs 5,400 crore was committed, a CCTV scam of Rs 571 crore and a scam of Rs 4,500 crore was committed in the purchase of buses ," Shah added.

Shah was campaigning for BJP candidate Manjinder Singh Sirsa who is contesting from the Rajouri Garden assembly seat. Lauding efforts of Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Shah said that if people of Rajouri Garden want development of their constituency they should vote for Manjinder Singh Sirsa. He said that party MP Kamaljeet Sehrwat and Manjinder Singh Sirsa had invited him to address a rally but this gathering is much more bigger than the rally and can be called a ‘Ralla.’ He said that his win would further consolidate hands of Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi who has already launched a host of schemes for welfare of the people of the Delhi.

Speaking at the Trinagar public meeting, Shah accused the Kejriwal government for giving sheltering to Rohingya and Bangladeshi in Delhi. He assured that Delhi will be free from illegal immigrants if voted to power here.

Delhi will vote in the assembly polls on February 5 and the results will be announced on February 8.
