Narbheram Hansraj English School (NHES) staged a mesmerizing play titled “Myths and Morality” at the Kusum Kamani Auditorium, bringing alive the timeless tales of the Indian epic Mahabharata. The event, conceptualized by the Principal, Paramita Roy Choudhury, was a sincere endeavour to reconnect with India's rich cultural heritage and highlight the transformative values embedded in these age-old narratives.
The play unfolded through a series of significant episodes from the epic. The poignant tale of Dronacharya and Eklavya showcased the profound themes of sacrifice, devotion, and social injustice, leaving the audience deeply moved. The thrilling Swayamvara of Draupadi, featuring Arjuna’s unparalleled skill in archery, demonstrated the virtues of focus, discipline, and determination.
The turning point of the Mahabharata — the infamous dice game between Shakuni and Yudhishthira — was depicted with gripping intensity, reflecting the dangers of temptation and deceit. The valorous story of Abhimanyu and his sacrifice within the Chakravyuha battle formation drew loud applause, while the soulful enactment of the Krishna-Arjuna Samvad from the Bhagavad Gita conveyed profound philosophical insights about duty, righteousness, and inner resolve.
The portrayal of Bhishma’s fall on the battlefield and his final plea for Shanti was especially poignant, capturing the essence of selfless sacrifice and the eternal quest for peace.
Under the expert guidance of Jarita Roy, who choreographed the sequences, and the musical direction of Ravikant and Surabhi Banerjee, the students brought energy and depth to their performances. The props and stage decoration, managed by Mahesh and Bhaskar, added authenticity and grandeur to the production.
The Chief Guest for the evening, Ananya Mittal, Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum, along with Nakul Kamani, President of NHES, and members of the Managing Committee, lauded the efforts of the students and teachers. They praised the programme as an enriching cultural experience that beautifully revived the ethos of India's eternal epic.
