A major crackdown has been initiated in connection with the violence that erupted in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, on Sunday night. The police have taken strict action under the National Security Act (NSA) against two accused, Sohail, son of Shahid Qureshi, and Ejaz, son of Mohammad Rafiq, both residents of the Mhow police station area. This action was taken based on the report submitted by the Superintendent of Police, Indore Rural. According to the police, the two accused were responsible for inciting communal unrest following a victory procession celebrating India’s win in the ICC Champions Trophy.
So far, 13 people have been arrested in connection with the clashes that broke out after stone-pelting on the rally celebrating India’s victory in the ICC Champions Trophy final. Indore District Collector Ashish Singh confirmed the arrests and stated that eight FIRs have been registered in the case, naming over 100 people as accused. Authorities have assured the public of strict action against those involved in the violence.
Singh further informed that the police are investigating all five incidents that took place in the Tal Mohalla, Seva Marg, Patti Bazaar, Manek Chowk, and Jama Masjid areas. CCTV footage and mobile phone videos recorded by locals are being reviewed to identify individuals involved in arson, vandalism, and stone-pelting. He emphasized that the situation in the area is currently peaceful and assured that no one responsible for the violence will be spared. Singh urged people to refrain from spreading rumors or fake messages on social media.
