In a decisive move to protect Punjab’s digital landscape from cyber threats, the State Government on Thursday announced the establishment of a state-of-the-art Security Operations Centre (SOC). With an investment of Rs 42.07 crore, this initiative positions Punjab as a leader in cybersecurity in northern India.
The state’s Governance Reforms and Public Grievances Minister Aman Arora, addressing a press conference following the 19th meeting of the Board of Governors of Punjab State e-Governance Society (PSeGS), emphasized the importance of the SOC in safeguarding critical IT infrastructure, including state government websites and applications.
“In an era of sophisticated cyber threats, Punjab is setting a benchmark by enhancing its cybersecurity defences. This SOC will enable real-time monitoring, detection, and response to cyber incidents, ensuring the safety of sensitive information,” he stated.
Sharing highlights of the initiative, he said that Rs 42.07 crore has been allocated for the SOC, making it one of the most advanced setups in the region. The Centre will integrate and secure all digital assets of the Punjab Government. The system will meet international cybersecurity benchmarks, ensuring Punjab’s readiness to combat modern digital threats.
Arora also revealed significant advancements in citizen service delivery. By the end of January, all services related to patwaris will be fully transitioned online. This initiative, part of a broader governance reform strategy, aims to enhance convenience for citizens and eliminate inefficiencies.
“Punjab is committed to providing seamless services through its 438 Sewa Kendras,” Arora highlighted, adding that the state’s pendency in service delivery has dropped to an impressive 0.17 percent — the lowest in the country.
Arora, in a video conference with Deputy Commissioners (DCs), outlined measures to improve governance and ensure transparency. He suggested accountability measures, making it clear that habitual delays in application processing will no longer be tolerated. DCs were directed to identify and address such bottlenecks.
He also stated that from February 1, 2025, offline verification by Sarpanches, Nambardars, and Municipal Councilors will cease; and all document verifications will transition to the eSewa Portal, streamlining processes and reducing citizen inconvenience. At the same time, he said that districts like Amritsar, Jalandhar, and Pathankot were praised for maintaining low pendency levels in service delivery.
“Punjab Police Capable of Solving Every Case”
Firmly defending Punjab’s law and order, Arora said that the Punjab Police is committed to resolving every case effectively. Responding to criticisms, Arora emphasized the state’s unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and justice.
“Targeting AAP is a Sign of BJP's Desperation”
Commenting on allegations against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, Arora described BJP’s actions as a sign of desperation. He predicted that AAP would return to power in Delhi with a stronger mandate. Arora also accused the BJP of creating fake voter lists and tampering with genuine votes to manipulate elections.
“Will Drop Bittu to Farmers Myself” Arora’s Jibe
In response to Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu’s remarks on farmers’ protests, Aman Arora sarcastically offered to personally escort Bittu to the protesting farmers if he was unaware of their location. Criticizing the BJP-led Central Government, Arora referred to it as “blind and deaf” for ignoring farmers’ concerns. He also supported the farmers’ decision to march to Delhi again, accusing the Centre of disregarding their voices.
