Saturday, 08 February 2025 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

A cybersecurity awareness session was jointly organized by the Raisen Police and Rabindranath Tagore University (RNTU). The event aimed to educate citizens, students, and institutions about measures to protect against cybercrimes.

The session was attended by Inspector General (IG) of Raisen, Shri Mithilesh Shukla, as the chief guest, and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Raisen, Shri Prashant Khare, along with Superintendent of Police (SP) Pankaj Pandey. Also present were Rajiv Agarwal, President of the Association of All Industries, Mandideep, and Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Pro-Vice Chancellor of RNTU. The main speakers included Cyber Expert and Advocate Shri Yogesh Pandit, Cyber Expert Anant Srivastava, and Senior Technical Lead Shri Shailendra Kumar.

In his address, IG Mithilesh Shukla emphasized the importance of cybersecurity in the digital age, saying, "Cybersecurity should be our priority in this digital era." He highlighted the rising dependency on digital platforms for banking, social media, and personal data management, which, while convenient, also increases vulnerability to cybercrimes such as phishing, ransomware, online fraud, and hacking. He assured that Raisen Police are committed to safeguarding citizens and have launched campaigns to raise awareness about cybersecurity.

DIG Prashant Khare noted that cybercrime is not just a technical challenge but a social issue as well. He warned that the younger generation, especially students, are spending more time online, making them targets for cybercriminals. He stressed that digital awareness is the strongest weapon against cyber threats and urged people to be cautious online, advising them to think twice before clicking on unknown links or sharing personal information with strangers.

Rajiv Agarwal, President of the Association of All Industries, Mandideep, called on businesses and trade organizations to remain vigilant against cyberattacks to protect themselves.

SP Pankaj Pandey advocated for promoting digital literacy to combat cybercrime, highlighting the proactive role of the police in educating the public through various initiatives.

As a keynote speaker, Cyber Expert Yogesh Pandit emphasized that digital discipline is crucial for cyber safety. He pointed out that those who use the internet recklessly are easy targets for cybercriminals. He advised using strong passwords, avoiding sharing personal details on social media, steering clear of suspicious emails and links, and enabling two-factor authentication. He also encouraged reporting cybercrimes promptly to the police, mentioning the government-provided helpline number 1930 and the www.cybercrime.gov.in portal for assistance.

This session underscored the critical need for cyber vigilance in an increasingly digital world, promoting a culture of safety and awareness among the public.
