Respite from heat wave with rains, thunderstorm likely this week

Sunday, 27 April 2025 | PNS | Ranchi

As most parts of the State have been sweltering in the grip of a heat wave with temperatures being recorded at 40 degree Celsius or more making it difficult to go about one’s daily chores, the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi has predicted a change in the weather conditions for the next few days with some much needed respite from the heat.

The MET Centre, Ranchi has issued an orange alert for April 27 stating that the north eastern parts of the State and the adjoining areas may witness hailstorm, thunderstorm and lightning with wind speed of up to 40 to 50 km per hour. A yellow alert has been issued for the western, central and north western parts of Jharkhand with thunderstorm and lighting activity along with winds of up 40 to 50 km per hour as per predictions.

On April 28 and April 29, the north western parts of the State which includes Palamu, Garhwa, Chatra, Koderma, Latehar and Lohardaga may experience light to moderate rain. Apart from the north western parts, there is a possibility of thunderstorm and lighting with gusty winds of speed up to 50 to 60 km per hour in the other parts of Jharkhand.

For April 29, heavy rainfall is also being predicted in the north eastern and south eastern parts of the State.

“The incoming moisture from the Bay of Bengal is causing the change in the weather which will mostly be seen from April 27 onwards in the whole of Jharkhand. There will be a fall of around three to six degrees in the maximum temperature from April 28 onwards bringing a relief from the heat,” said MET Centre Director, Abhishek Anand.

As per the data shared by the MET Centre, Ranchi, in the last 24 hours, the highest maximum temperature was recorded in Daltonganj at 43.5 degree Celsius. Garhwa was recorded at 41.7 degree Celsius while Jamshedpur, Chaibasa and Bokaro were observed at 42.9, 42.4 and 42.1 degree Celsius respectively.

The maximum temperature in the State capital was recorded at 39.3 degree Celsius followed by Chatra at 38.9 degree Celsius and Khunti at 38.3 degree Celsius.

With a drop in the maximum temperature levels expected in the coming days, on April 27 the day time in Ranchi and its surrounding areas will be around 36 degree Celsius while on April 28 it will be around 34 degree Celsius. As per the predictions, towards the end of the month, the day time temperature here will be 31 degree Celsius.
